DESCRIPTION:Join us for *Film Sampler*\, a series of film screenings focused on themes of protest and resistance.\n\nWatch a screening of *The Janes *(2022\, 101 min)\, followed by a talk back with director Emma Pildes and Professor Sara McCelland.\n\nDuring the five years before the Roe v. Wade ruling –– a time when abortion was a crime in most states and even circulating information about abortion was a felony in Illinois –– the Janes provided low-cost and free abortions to an estimated 11\,000 women. *The Janes* offers first-hand accounts from the women at the center of the group\, many speaking on the record for the first time.\n\nThese screenings are free and open to the public\, no registration or ticket required.\n\n*Film Sampler*\, organized in partnership with the U-M Department of Film\, Television\, and Media (FTVM)\, is offered in conjunction with the UMMA exhibition American Sampler: Activating the Archive.
