SUMMARY:Conference / Symposium:Astronomy Colloquium | “One step closer to planet formation”
DESCRIPTION:Over the past decade\, ALMA and VLT/SPHERE have unveiled a diverse range of\nplanet-forming disk morphologies\, the connection of which to planet formation remains only\npartially understood. Rings\, gaps\, spirals\, warps\, vortices\, and asymmetries are now\ncommonly observed and are often interpreted as signatures of planet-disk interactions. Yet\,\nprotoplanets embedded in disks remain very elusive\, and ALMA is unable to probe dust\ngrains approaching centimeter sizes\, a critical stage in the process of planet formation. In this\ntalk\, I review our progresses in understanding the planet formation\, and investigate the\npotential of ELT and SKA to address the main challenges.
