SUMMARY:Lecture / Discussion:2026 Borer Lecture: \"Exercise and Metabolic Flexibility\"
DESCRIPTION:Bret Goodpaster\, scientific director of Advent Health Research Institute\, will present \"Exercise and Metabolic Flexibility\" at this year's Katarina T. Borer Lectureship in Exercise Endocrinology & Metabolism.\n\nJoin us at the pre-reception from 2:00-3:00 p.m. and the lecture from 3:00-4:00 p.m. Can't attend in person? Join the Zoom webinar instead.\n\nAbstract: Efficient and effective fuel metabolism is critical to support health. Conversely\, abhorrent fuel metabolism is a key driver of metabolic disease and disease risk\, most notably\, diabetes\, obesity\, cardiovascular disease and even accelerated aging. This 11th Annual Katarina T. Boer Lectureship in Exercise\, Endocrinology & Metabolism seminar will provide novel insight into the concept of metabolic flexibility\, that is\, being able to efficiently and effectively use carbohydrates and fat to support increased energy metabolism from fasting to feeding and during exercise. Impaired fuel metabolism in individuals with obesity and type 2 diabetes will be discussed\, along with insight into the role weight loss and exercise have in improving fuel metabolism and disease risk.
