"Cascades are Diverses"
Justin Cheng, Data Scientist, Facebook Core Data Science Team
The Computational Social Science Initiative through the Center for the Study of Complex Systems Presents!
Abstract: In online social networks, large information cascades can develop as people share content with one another. However, the mechanisms that lead to cascades reaching substantial adoption across a network remain less well-understood. In this talk, I'll present methods for studying the spreading mechanisms and temporal dynamics of these cascades. Analyzing billions of interactions by hundreds of millions of users on Facebook, I'll demonstrate how diffusion protocols and the resulting interactions between individuals affect cascade growth, and how cascades may resurface after lying dormant for months.
