Shimura varieties and the Langlands correspondence

A natural place to realize the Langlands correspondence in is the cohomology of Shimura varieties. We'll give a rough statement of the Langlands correspondence and use a motivating example (the modular curves) to introduce Shimura varieties. Speaker(s): Alex Horawa (University of Michigan)
