Michigan Institute for Data Science pres.

MIDAS Data Science Summer Camp

Teaching the basic math behind data science, with real-world applications.

In the Data Science Summer Camp for High School Students, participants will learn the basic mathematics behind data science and will work on team projects with classmates using real life examples. Over the course of the week, the content will build in complexity and difficulty, and will include coding and strategies for data visualization and statistics. Additionally, invited guest faculty will give presentations each afternoon to expose the students to various data science application domains. The course will be directed by U-M College of Engineering faculty with the small group projects led by graduate doctoral students.

During the week, additional field trips (included in the cost) may include visits to Michigan Stadium and Mcity (the UM autonomous vehicle test track).

Faculty members from the U-M departments of Engineering, Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Mathematics and Statistics will meet with campers.

Applicants should have an interest in mathematics, programming, social networks, and social media. Knowledge of and coursework in trigonometry is preferred.

  • Dates: June 28-July 3, 2020. Location: University of Michigan, Ann Arbor Cost: $875, including lodging and meals Eligibility: Open to rising juniors and seniors, and rising sophomores with at least junior standing in math.
