SUMMARY:Performance:Leo Kottke
DESCRIPTION:\"an American legend in the guitar world\" –Los Angeles Times \n\nAcoustic guitarist Leo Kottke was born in Athens\, Georgia\, but left town after a year and a half. Raised in 12 different states\, he absorbed a variety of musical influences as a child\, flirting with both violin and trombone\, before abandoning Stravinsky for the guitar at age 11. After adding a love for the country-blues of Mississippi John Hurt to the music of John Phillip Sousa and Preston Epps\, Kottke joined the Navy underage\, to be underwater\, and eventually lost some hearing shooting at lightbulbs in the Atlantic while serving on the USS Halfbeak\, a diesel submarine. \n\nKottke had previously entered college at the U of Missouri\, dropping out after a year to hitchhike across the country to South Carolina\, then to New London and into the Navy\, with his twelve string. \"The trip was not something I enjoyed\,\" he has said\, \"I was broke and met too many interesting people.\" Discharged in 1964\, he settled in the Twin Cities area and became a fixture at Minneapolis' Scholar Coffeehouse\, which had been home to Bob Dylan and John Koerner. He issued his 1968 recording debut LP Twelve String Blues\, recorded on a Viking quarter-inch tape recorder\, for the Scholar's tiny Oblivion label. (The label released one other LP by The Langston Hughes Memorial Eclectic Jazz Band.) \n\nAfter sending tapes to guitarist John Fahey\, Kottke was signed to Fahey's Takoma label\, releasing what has come to be called the Armadillo record. Fahey and his manager Denny Bruce soon secured a production deal for Kottke with Capitol Records. \n\nKottke's 1971 major-label debut\, \"Mudlark\,\" positioned him somewhat uneasily in the singer/songwriter vein\, despite his own wishes to remain an instrumental performer. Still\, despite arguments with label heads as well as with Bruce\, Kottke flourished during his tenure on Capitol\, as records like 1972's \"Greenhouse\" and 1973's live \"My Feet Are Smiling\" and \"Ice Water\" found him branching out with guest musicians and honing his guitar technique. \n\nHis collaboration with Phish bassist Mike Gordon\, \"Clone\,\" caught audiences' attention in 2002. Kottke and Gordon followed with a recording in the Bahamas called \"Sixty Six Steps\,\" produced by Leo's old friend and Prince producer David Z. \n\nKottke has been awarded two Grammy nominations\; a Doctorate in Music Performance by the Peck School of Music at the U of Wisconsin\, Milwaukee\; and a Certificate of Significant Achievement in Not Playing the Trombone from the U of Texas at Brownsville with Texas Southmost College.

SUMMARY:Performance:Joe Pernice
DESCRIPTION:“a workhorse of a songwriter who delivers hard truths with the softest of whispers” –NPR\n\nJoe Pernice is a songwriter celebrated for his rare ability to pair luminous melodies with quietly devastating emotional depth. Over the course of a career spanning more than three decades\, Pernice has built a body of work that is literate\, melodic\, and enduring—music that reveals new layers with each listen.\n\nFirst gaining attention in the early 1990s with alt-country band Scud Mountain Boys\, Pernice later founded the Pernice Brothers\, a project that would firmly establish his reputation as one of the most refined songwriters of his generation. From the initial Overcome by Happiness and across numerous albums\, his songs have been marked by elegant arrangements\, strong pop instincts\, and lyrics that balance wit\, melancholy\, and narrative precision. Drawing from folk\, power pop\, and chamber pop traditions\, Pernice’s music feels both timeless and unmistakably personal. His collaborations with a range of musicians include Norman Blake (Teenage Fanclub)\, Joshua Karp\, Neko Case\, Aimee Mann\, and the iconic Jimmy Webb.\n\nCritics have consistently praised his work for its craftsmanship and emotional intelligence. Major publications including Rolling Stone\, Pitchfork\, Magnet\, The Guardian\, and Mojo have highlighted his gift for melody and his ability to cloak dark\, complex themes in deceptively beautiful songs.\nBeyond music\, Joe has written one of the first books in the original 33 1/3 book series. His novella explores the Smiths’ Meat is Murder and Catholic high school life in Boston in 1985. Joe’s novel\, It Feels So Good When I Stop\, is a dark\, irreverent story of a young man trying to sort through love\, life and commitment.\n\nWith his latest album\, Sunny\, I Was Wrong\, Joe continues his signature style of rich storytelling melded with inspired arrangements\, each song a world unto its own.

SUMMARY:Performance:Jon Muq
DESCRIPTION:Melding the sounds of America with the sounds of Uganda\n\nFor Jon Muq\, a singer-songwriter born in Uganda and now living in Austin\, Texas\, music is part of a larger conversation he’s having with the world and everybody in it. Drawing from African as well as western musical trends and traditions\, he devises songs as small gifts\, designed to settle into everyday life and provoke reflection and resilience. “These days the world is sad\,” he explains\, “so I wanted to make happy songs. I wanted to write songs that connected with the listener in a very personal way. When someone listens to my music\, it’s not just about me and what I’m singing. It’s about how they understand the songs individually. I think these songs can speak many languages\, depending on what you want from them.”\n\nMuq’s experiences as a child in Uganda and as a man in America give him a unique perspective on the world he’s addressing. “I grew up in a very different life\, where so many people pass through hard times just because they don’t have much. Our biggest issue was food scarcity. Then I came to a different world\, which gave me a picture of how to write a song that can find balance with everyone wherever they are\, whether they have a lot or not much.” With his May 31st debut album with producer Dan Auerbach and tours with Billy Joel\, Norah Jones\, Mavis Staples\, Amythyst Kiah\, Corinne Bailey Rae\, and others\, Muq is expanding the scope of his music to speak to more and more people.

SUMMARY:Performance:Chris Knight w/sg Matt Woods
DESCRIPTION:“a storyteller in the best traditions of Mellencamp and Springsteen” –USA Today\n\nAfter 23 years as a recording artist\, singer-songwriter Chris Knight remains boldly empowered to make music that always delivers the unflinching truth. In fact\, the man raised in Slaughters\, Kentucky uses a simple\, direct barometer to regularly check his muse: “If I can’t believe myself\, I won’t sing the song.”\n\nWhat Knight writes about is what he knows. He was raised in mining country\, so it’s no surprise that he would earn a degree in agriculture from Western Kentucky University and then work as a mine reclamation inspector and then miner’s consultant. But eventually his passion for writing songs and playing guitar\, both inspired by his musical hero\, the late John Prine\, led him to chronicle his surroundings in words and music.\n\n“I came from a big family and grew up in the woods six miles from two small towns\, so there were a lot of stories\,” he says. “There were always a lot of ideas to write about.”\n\nIt’s no wonder that Knight has single-handedly scraped a reputation as one of America’s most uncompromising and respected singer-songwriters through 23 years and nine studio albums. He’s done this minus fanfare and artifice. The native son of Slaughters\, Kentucky (population: 238) only sings songs he believes. He also speaks only when he has a potent message.

With a songbook of nearly 200 songs in his head\, you can expect to hear a sampling of them at the Showcase. SUMMARY:Performance:Suzy Bogguss
DESCRIPTION:“Radiant and transportive” –No Depression\n\nDuring the creative explosion that was country music in the 1990s Suzy Bogguss sold 4 million records with sparkling radio hits like “Outbound Plane\,” “Someday Soon\,” “Letting Go\,” “Drive South\,” and “Hey Cinderella.\" But you can’t peg Suzy that easily… \n\nIn the midst of her country popularity she took time off to make a duets album with the legendary Chet Atkins. In 2003 she made an album of modern swing music with Ray Benson of Asleep At The Wheel. An album of original music in 2007 landed her at number 4 on the jazz charts. Her folk music roots show through in her frequent appearances on public radio’s A Prairie Home Companion\, in the Grammy she earned for her work on Beautiful Dreamer: The Songs of Stephen Foster\, and in her critically acclaimed album and book project from 2011\, American Folk Songbook. In 2014 she released Lucky\, a collection of songs written by Merle Haggard and interpreted through Suzy’s crystal vocals from the female point of view. Her latest offering\, Prayin’ For Sunshine\, is an Americana tour de force with all songs written by Bogguss. \n\nShe continues to tour the world\, both on her own and with fellow country radio divas Terri Clark and Pam Tills as “Chicks With Hits” and more recently\, with Kathy Mattea on their Together At Last tour. So yes\, you can call her a country singer if you want\, but really that’s just the beginning.

SUMMARY:Performance:The Seldom Scene
DESCRIPTION:Legendary bluegrass\n\nFifty-three years into a legendary career\, much has changed about The Seldom Scene\, starting with the venerable progressive bluegrass quintet’s various lineup iterations over time. But even as band members have stepped in and out of various roles\, what’s most important is what hasn’t changed: an undeniable knack for blending both old and new music and traditions without sacrificing what makes either potent and durable. Their current iteration is a true blue lineup: guitarist mandolin player Lou Reid\, bassist Ronnie Simpkins\, banjoist and fiddler Ron Stewart\, dobro player Fred Travers\, and guitarist Clay Hess.\n\nSince they started up together in 1971\, The Seldom Scene has dexterously performed original and traditional songs while presenting fiery and soulful reinterpretations of material by Merle Haggard\, James Taylor\, and more. The concept of bluegrass unshackling itself from a conservative\, straight-ahead mindset seems like a given now\, when some of its biggest stars fill stadiums and cross over with mainstream audiences\, but the continued presence of the Scene acts as a reminder that it wasn’t always so. Even if their playing style feels more at home in intimate clubs\, where the audience can feel their exuberance radiating from the stage\, the Scene’s elastic relationship to genre established an important precedent that encouraged their contemporaries and allowed bluegrass bands to expand their repertoire in ways that laid the groundwork for today’s bluegrass boom.

SUMMARY:Performance:Paper Wings with special guest The Montvales
DESCRIPTION:“Paper Wings blends two distinct voices and impeccable skills as instrumentalists to create a modern\, unified vision built on Appalachian traditions.” —No Depression\n\nLong-time friends and collaborators Emily Mann and Wila Frank\, known together as Paper Wings\, dream up warm\, pastoral folk songs furnished with delicate banjo and spellbinding harmonies so close you often can’t tell their voices apart. On their latest project\, Listen to the World Spin\, the Nashville duo’s songwriting flourishes\, displaying their exceptional ability to reference nostalgic sounds of American folk music while maintaining their own compelling style of artful and unpretentious lyricism. Embracing themes of solitude\, nature\, and passage through time and space\, Listen to the World Spin is a beautiful exploration of how we are never alone in our search for meaning and certainty in difficult times. “We needed these songs to guide and comfort us through the last few years\,” says Frank\, “And we hope they’ll do the same for others.” Listen to the World Spin was released on March 15th\, 2024 with support from Free Dirt Records.

SUMMARY:Performance:Dave & Kristi
DESCRIPTION:“Irrepressible verve and joy.” –Daniel Bracken\, Wheatland Music Festival\n\nOne time garage rock troubadour Dave Boutette\, and former Radio City Rockette Kristi Lynn Davis make what could be considered an unexpected musical pairing\, but they have certainly found a way to make it work. Since pairing Dave’s celebrated songwriting with Kristi’s natural gift for harmony\, the duo has delighted audiences at music festivals\, house concerts\, and listening rooms from Michigan’s Upper Peninsula to the Maryland shore. Their most recent release THE CHICKADEES reached #11 on the Folk DJ Chart in June of 2025.\n\nFor additional spark in the set list that night\, Dave & Kristi will be bringing along Jason Dennie on mandolin and Brad Phillips on fiddle.\n\nDave & Kristi’s songs mix many schools of American roots and popular music including folk\, blues\, swing\, and old time country. The lyrics testify to the power of true love\, rebirth\, Polka bands\, coffee\, and migrating fish.

SUMMARY:Performance:Peter Mulvey & Jenna Nicholls present Floyd Mercantile
DESCRIPTION:In April 2025\, Peter Mulvey and Jenna Nicholls\, along with guitarist Ross Bellenoit\, traveled to Floyd\, a small mountain town located in the Blue Ridge Highlands of Southwest Virginia\, for five uninterrupted days of recording. What emerged is Floyd Mercantile — a record that feels both intimate and timeless.\n\nThe makeshift studio was a decommissioned general store called (you guessed it!) Floyd Mercantile — a weathered wooden building standing across the road from an open pasture where cows wandered and grazed in the gentle early spring. (One cow even volunteered to be on the album cover.) Inside those old walls\, the trio recorded the album live — no isolation booths\, no heavy overdubbing — just three musicians in a room\, listening closely and letting the songs unfold in real time.\n\nThe sessions were recorded by Jeff Oehler and filmed in their entirety by partner Sue Bibeau and their associate Skylar Locke. Together\, Sue and Jeff comprise Beehive Pro\, an audio\, visual\, and design collective famed for their intimate recordings and thoughtfully considered visuals.\n\nThey captured not just the sound\, but the atmosphere — the wood floors\, the daylight through the dusty windows\, and the creak of the porch boards could all be considered session players on this album.\n\nThe repertoire bridges eras. Mostly comprised of songs Peter and Jenna wrote separately\, there are a few gems from the Great American Songbook: “Skylark\" (Hoagy Carmichael/Johnny Mercer)\, “Them There Eyes\" (Maceo Pinkard/Doris Tauber/William Tracey)\, and “I'll Be Seeing\nYou\" (Sammy Fain/Irving Kahal).\n\n\nThe visual and sonic tones of the project reflect the periods these songs evoke — even the newly composed tracks feel in conversation with another time. The goal was not nostalgia\, but continuity: to stand inside the lineage of American song and add something honest and present to it.\n\nFloyd Mercantile is not just an album. It’s a document of place. Of three musicians in a room. Of songs — old and new — allowed to breathe in the quiet of a Virginia afternoon.

SUMMARY:Performance:Chris Smither
DESCRIPTION:“an American original – a product of the musical melting pot and one of the absolute best singer-songwriters in the world.” –Associated Press\n\nBorn in Miami\, during World War II\, Chris Smither grew up in New Orleans where he first started playing music as a child. The son of a Tulane University professor\, he was taught the rudiments of instrumentation by his uncle on his mother’s ukulele. “Uncle Howard\,” Smither says\, “showed me that if you knew three chords\, you could play a lot of the songs you heard on the radio. And if you knew four chords\, you could pretty much rule the world.” With that bit of knowledge under his belt\, he was hooked. “I’d loved acoustic music – specifically the blues – ever since I first heard Lightnin’ Hopkins’ Blues In My Bottle album. I couldn’t believe the sound Hopkins got. At first I thought it was two guys playing guitar. My style\, to a degree\, came out of trying to imitate that sound I heard.”\n\nIn his early twenties\, Smither turned his back on his anthropology studies and headed to Boston at the urging of legendary folk singer Eric von Schmidt. It was the mid-’60s and acoustic music thrived in the streets and coffeehouses there. Smither forged lifelong friendships with many musicians\, including Bonnie Raitt who went on to record his songs\, “Love You Like A Man” and “I Feel the Same. (Their friendship has endured as their career paths intertwined over the years.) What quickly evolved from his New Orleans and Cambridge musical experiences is his enduring\, singular guitar sound – a beat-driven finger-picking\, strongly influenced by the playing of Mississippi John Hurt and Lightnin’ Hopkins\, layered over the ever-present backbeat of his rhythmic\, tapping feet (always mic’d in performance).

SUMMARY:Performance:Darrell Scott
DESCRIPTION:A Nashville virtuoso\n\nMulti-Instrumentalist and Singer-Songwriter Darrell Scott mines and cultivates the everyday moment\, taking the rote\, menial\, mundane\, and allowing it to be surreal\, ever poignant\, and candidly honest\, lilting\, blooming\, and resonating. The words he fosters allow us to make sense of the world\, what is at stake here\, and our place in it. And ultimately\, Darrell knows the sole truth of life is that love is all that matters\, that we don’t always get it right\, but that’s the instinctive and requisite circuitous allure of things\, why we forever chase it\, and why it is held sacred.\n\nDarrell Scott comes from a musical family with a father who had him smitten with guitars by the age of 4\, alongside a brother who played Jerry Reed style as well. From there\, things only ramped up with literature and poetry endeavors while a student at Tufts University\, along with playing his way through life. This would never change.\n\nAfter recently touring with Robert Plant and the Zac Brown Band (2 years with each)\, and producing albums for Malcolm Holcomb and Guy Clark and being named “songwriter of the year” for both ASCAP and NSAI\, these days find him roaming his Tennessee wilderness acreage hiking along the small river\, creating delicious meals with food raised on his property and playing music. He often leads songwriting workshops to help people tell their own truths with their stories\, and is as busy as always writing\, producing\, performing\, and just plain fully immersing himself in life.

SUMMARY:Performance:Stories & Songs: An Evening with Radney Foster & Kelly Willis
DESCRIPTION:Radney Foster first gained attention as half of the duo Foster & Lloyd\, who with “Crazy Over You” became the first duo in history to top the Country charts with their debut single. He then established himself as a solo artist in the early 90’s with his critically acclaimed release Del Rio\, Texas 1959. \n\nKnown as a songwriter’s songwriter\, his songs have been recorded by everyone from Keith Urban and the Chicks to Hootie & the Blowfish and George Benson. His own hits like “Just Call Me Lonesome\,” “Nobody Wins\,” and “Texas In 1880” continue to be played on radio and by bands around the world.\n\nHis most recent project For You To See The Stars is in two parts\, a book of short fiction\, and a collection of songs to go with it. He is currently working on another book of fiction\, as well as developing film and TV projects.\n\nSinger-songwriter Kelly Willis captured critical acclaim from her first release\, with a distinctive voice that conveys both tender heartache and smoldering heat. Born in Oklahoma\, she moved often as a kid with her Army Colonel dad. She started singing professionally at 16\, fronting the rockabilly band “Kelly and the Fireballs” in the DC area\, but it soon became clear she was more of a country singer. After high school\, she moved to Austin and It wasn’t long before she got on the radar of MCA’s Tony Brown\, who signed her after an introduction by Nanci Griffith.\n\nKelly’s recording career began at a time when Nashville was experiencing a creative resurgence with the likes of Lyle Lovett\, Steve Earle\, Foster & Lloyd and The O'Kanes. She recorded three albums for MCA that were critical hits\, but it wasn’t until she left the major label restrictions behind that she came into her own with 1999’s What I Deserve for Rykodisc.\n\nThe albums Willis has made since What I Deserve have only burnished her reputation as Austin’s reigning queen of Americana\, including being inducted into the Austin Music Hall of Fame. When not performing her own music\, Kelly tours with Brennan Leigh and Melissa Carper as Wonder Women of Country\, in support of their 2023 self-titled EP.

SUMMARY:Performance:Jason Carter Band
DESCRIPTION:The award winning fiddler from the Del McCoury Band takes the lead\n\nIn Lloyd\, Kentucky\, on U.S. 23\, there’s a sign on the Country Music Highway dedicated to renowned fiddler Jason Carter. It was placed there because of his other accomplishments—the Grammy awards\, the worldwide tours\, and the many other accolades he’s earned through his music. But for Carter\, joining the legendary names honored on that stretch of highway just might mean the most. \"There's a certain sound that's up there that you just don't hear anywhere else\,\" he says. \"I think that played a big part in how I sound today.\" \n\nTrue to those Kentucky roots\, Carter continues to pour all he has back into bluegrass. For thirty years\, he has been the fiddle player for the Del McCoury Band—the most awarded group in bluegrass history. He’s won three Grammy awards\, including 2018’s “Best Bluegrass Album” with the Travelin’ McCourys\, of which he is a founding member. And he’s taken home five IBMAs for “Fiddle Player of the Year\,” a staggering number that isn’t quite so crazy once you realize just how many bluegrass greats have turned to Carter for collaboration. \n\nAs a fiddler\, Carter has been featured on albums by Steve Earle\, Ricky Skaggs\, Dierks Bentley\, Charlie Daniels\, Vince Gill\, Asleep at the Wheel\, and many more\, all in addition to his tireless touring and recording with Del as well as the Travelin’ McCourys. On Carter’s forthcoming solo album\, Lowdown Hoedown\, listeners may recognize instrumental contributions from such legends as Jerry Douglas or Sam Bush alongside vocals from young trailblazers like Sarah Jarosz or Billy Strings. This time\, though\, Carter is singing lead. \n\nWith Lowdown Hoedown\, Carter shares the fruits of decades’ worth of on-the-road experience\, spectacular musical sensibility\, and genuine excitement for what bluegrass can be.

DESCRIPTION:Piano star x culture creator\n\nBorn and raised in Detroit’s inner city\, BLKBOK (born Charles Wilson III) grew up in a music-filled home and was an acclaimed piano prodigy by age eight\, winning statewide accolades and college-level competitions. While many of his peers pursued hip-hop\, Charles chose the name BLKBOK\, a nod to one of the greatest pianists and composers of all time and a reflection of his journey from pop and hip-hop culture to his critically acclaimed neo-classical debut album Black Book and subsequent mixtape projects and collaborations. \n\nBLKBOK’s live\, high-energy performances are culturally reflective\, delivering a piano-based experience unlike any other. SUMMARY:Performance:Ellis Paul
DESCRIPTION:A master of modern songwriting\n\nEllis Paul doesn’t just write songs\; he’s a guitar-carrying reporter who covers the human condition and details the hopes\, loves\, losses of those he observes\, turning their stories into luminous pieces of music that get under your skin and into your bloodstream. And much like the artists who have influenced him\, everyone from Joni Mitchell\, Bob Dylan and Paul Simon to the singer-songwriter who is undoubtedly his greatest inspiration\, Woody Guthrie\, Paul weaves deeply personal experiences with social issues and renders them as provocative works that are as timely as they are timeless. \n\nBorn and raised in Maine\, Paul attended Boston College on a track scholarship and in the evenings became a fixture on the city’s open mic circuit. After winning a Boston Acoustic Underground songwriter competition\, he caught the ear of folk luminary Bill Morrissey\, who produced his indie album Say Something in 1993. This led to a seven album contract with Rounder Records and the 1994 album\, Stories. His songs have appeared in several blockbuster films (Me\, Myself\, and Irene\; Shallow Hal\, Hall Pass) and have been covered by award winning country artists (Sugarland\, Kristian Bush\, Jack Ingram). \n\nThrough a steady succession of albums of his own – a remarkable 23 releases so far – and a constant touring presence around the world\, Paul’s audience has grown into a loyal legion of fans. Along the way\, he has picked up an impressive number of awards including the prestigious Kerrville New Folk Award\, 15 Boston Music Awards\, An Honorary Doctorate from the University of Maine\, the 2019 International Acoustic Music Awards Artist of the Year and most recently his album\, The Storyteller’s Suitcase\, was named the 2019 NERFA Album of the Year.\n\nHis latest album “55” touches on the necessity of gratitude in a difficult era of the pandemic and divided political stances on his own imprint\, Rosella Records.

SUMMARY:Performance:Esther Rose
DESCRIPTION:New music!\n\nEsther Rose was on a long solo drive when she started writing the opening title track of Want\, her stunning fifth album. At first\, the words seemed almost like a joke\, something to keep herself amused as the miles passed. “I want a puppy\, but I don't want a mess. I want to know where I’m going without GPS\,” she sang from behind the wheel. Soon\, the idea snowballed into a list of desires that spanned existential\, spiritual\, and mundane\; romantic to platonic to familial\; at once wildly ambitious yet piercingly relatable\; all set to a catchy melody that blends her pop instincts with country storytelling and the raw immediacy of a basement punk show. In other words\, she was on her way to another classic Esther Rose song.\n\nThis precise blend has made the Santa Fe-based artist one of her generation’s most beloved songwriters: someone whose live shows are known to conclude in mass tears and group hugs. Still\, something was different this time. “For me\, these songs felt like revelations\,” she explains\, comparing the 11-song record to a memoir\, alive with kinetic storytelling and personal insight. In its newly direct and stirringly nuanced writing\, you’ll hear about rock bottom encounters\, shifting relationships with substances\, evolving perspectives on adult partnership\, and\, as evidenced by those early lines in “Want\,” a few jokes along the way. Vivid and bracing\, Want places you in the passenger seat while each of these feelings arrive.\n\nTo match the multi-dimensional tone of the writing\, Rose has made the most adventurous\, hardest-hitting record of her career. Working with producer Ross Farbe and recording live-to-tape in Nashville’s Bomb Shelter\, she travels as far as she’s been from the stripped-down classic country of celebrated early work like 2017’s This Time Last Night and 2019’s You Made It This Far. Following the wide-open serenity of 2023’s momentous Safe to Run\, she now leans toward confrontational arrangements full of distortion and full-band spontaneity\, never sacrificing a classicist’s gift for melody that makes each song instantly memorable.

SUMMARY:Performance:Davy Knowles
DESCRIPTION:“My favorite modern bluesman” –Joe Satriani\n\nWhether playing acoustic\, mandolin\, national steel\, or screaming electric guitar\, Davy Knowles has an unmistakable style. Since bursting on to the scene with his band Back Door Slam’s critically acclaimed album ‘Roll Away’ in 2007 (“I heard the spirit of Jimi Hendrix” Patrick McDonald - Seattle Times)\, Davy’s star has only risen. His sophomore release ‘Coming Up For Air’ was produced by the legendary Peter Frampton (“Davy already has a recognizable style. He’s definitely the gunslinger guitarist of the 21st century\,’’- Peter Frampton).\n\nKnowles has several top-5 Billboard Blues charting albums under his belt\, high profile TV appearances (Jimmy Kimmel Live and CBS Good Morning America among others)\, and has been praised with high accolades from heroes and press alike - but it’s not just the music industry who has taken note. Knowles was also the very first artist in history to perform live to the International Space Station directly from mission control in Houston TX\, and has had his music taken to the Space Station by two astronauts\, Nicole Stott and Ron Garan\, on their missions orbiting Earth. \n\nNever one to be satisfied or to sit still\, Knowles has explored multiple genres and styles\, from the hard-hitting 70’s classic rock influenced album ‘Three Miles From Avalon’\, to the haunting acoustic delta blues of ‘1932’\, and the sweet\, soul-searching folk of 2023’s ‘If I Should Wander’. \n \nWhether spending an evening onstage armed with just an acoustic guitar\, or wielding his well worn and trusty Telecaster while fronting his blues/rock trio - and at any point in between the two - Davy Knowles is a versatile and formidable songwriter and musician.

SUMMARY:Performance:Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears
DESCRIPTION:Modern blues and funk infused rock and roll\n\nBlack Joe Lewis is the realest motherfucker there is. When Covid sidelined his touring this past year\, he started laying concrete to help support his baby mama and his kid. That’s fuckin’ real. When Joe and his band\, the Honeybears\, popped onto the national stage over a decade ago\, many critics embraced him but still\, there were some that maintained that they hadn’t paid their dues. Joe’s still here. Still going. Still cashing checks and snapping necks. The dues of hard work\; the delirious heights of the industry as well as the disappointments and low hanging fruit. Through this all\, Joe’s only honed his mastery over gut bucket blues guitar and his true voice. It’s a vital and distinctly American voice that never anticipated the attention he wound up receiving\, never went looking for it either. It just started happening. The garage\, the blues\, the propulsive and synergistic live performances that inhabit the spaces of James Brown\, Lightnin’ Hopkins\, and the MC5...those things happened naturally from the very beginning and could only be accurately communicated in the live experience\, not a press release or a slick brand campaign. Sharon Jones\, Charles Bradley\, Cedric Burnside and Lightnin Malcolm\, The Dirtbombs\, Detroit Cobras\, the Strange Boys\; these are some of the artists that Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears shared countless bills with\; almost a roll call of the most influential soul and garage bands of the last twenty five years. Has the soul blues garage explosion from that era been commodified or worked into the overall template of pop rock? Sure. But the ground floor was a vital space for people that like guitars and grease and at this point Black Joe Lewis is one of the last standing that was there. Last of a dying breed. Or maybe a missing link. Does this make him a throwback? A throwback to a throwback? It’d be tempting and easy for Joe to go along with that but nah\, we don’t think so. We know that Joe Lewis is genuinely doing his thing and that he’d do it regardless of what’s coming down the pipe. A stone cold original and a veteran at that. If you like whistling in your music and some floppy hat\, quaky kneed dudes cloyingly singing at you\, then you might not “get it” but whatever...there are enough intrepid\, degenerate weirdos that do. Those are the folks Joe cares about. Not the glad handing set. Not the fair-weather friend set getting down with the flavor of the month. Like the title of his last album says\, “the difference between me and you” is Joe defining for himself that there’s the belabored wannabes and then there’s dudes that actually “HAVE the blues”...whatever the hell THAT is! Joe’s concrete pouring boss is gonna miss him.

SUMMARY:Performance:Mark Jewett & The Strategic Advisors w/sg Jackamo
DESCRIPTION:Country-tinged roots rock\n\nMark Jewett is an insightful Michigan native storyteller who writes songs that push the boundaries of Americana into an uncommon blend of folk\, rock\, blues\, and prog rock. In them\, listeners will hear and feel honesty\, gratitude\, and thoughtful introspection\, with doses of humor and drama to vary the pace. His songs betray the effort he makes to find just the right words\, taking cues from the likes of Randy Newman\, John Prine\, and Nick Lowe.\n\nMark assembled the band known as The Strategic Advisors to record his 2nd full length album\, “The Lucky One\,” released in 2021. The band is comprised of some of SE Michigan’s finest musicians\, including Billy Harrington (drums & vocals)\, Michael Harrington (pedal steel\, electric & acoustic guitars)\, Ken Pesick (bass)\, Amy Petty (vocals & guitar) and Dale Grisa (keyboards). The band is extremely versatile and sonically\, they make Mark's tunes span the wide space between classic folk and epic soundscapes you might expect to hear from Pink Floyd. Somehow\, it all fits together to provide an attention grabbing extravaganza.\n\nDetroit-based indie-folk band Jackamo opens. Led by sisters Alison and Tessa Wiercioch (vocals) and Jimmy Showers (guitar)\, and known for their blood harmonies\, acoustic textures\, and lyric-driven storytelling\, their sound is intimate\, nostalgic\, and always evolving.

He is known for his energetic\, heartfelt shows\, where he connects with audiences through the strength of his songwriting and his quirky sense of humor. By 15\, he was writing his own songs and performing across New England. Shortly after graduating high school\, Day became a fixture at college coffeehouses across the U.S. He wrote\, financed\, and released his first effort\, Australia\, which was named Best Debut Album at the 2001 Boston Music Awards. \n\nDay began experimenting with effects pedals and loop-sampling techniques as he performed\, layering live percussion with vocal harmonies and guitar parts to become a veritable one-man band. He went on to sell over 30\,000 copies of Australia as he navigated the independent music scene and continued to hone his craft. After signing with Epic Records\, Day released his\nmajor-label debut\, Stop All The World Now\, and hit the road to support it. SUMMARY:Performance:Wild Child
DESCRIPTION:Infectious folk-pop from Austin\, Texas\n\nWild Child is the Austin-born songwriting partnership of Kelsey Wilson and Alexander Beggins\, a duo whose chemistry has powered more than a decade of acclaimed indie-folk releases and spirited live shows. What began as a spontaneous creative spark in the back of a tour van evolved into one of Austin’s most beloved bands\, known for warm harmonies\, candid storytelling\, and an ever-evolving blend of folk\, pop\, and soulful brass-driven arrangements. After years of near-constant touring and the launch of their individual projects - Wilson’s Motown-leaning Sir Woman and Beggins’ dream-pop alter ego CoCo Zandi - the pair stepped back to explore new sounds and space\, unsure when or how Wild Child might return.\n\nThat return arrived in an unexpected moment of stillness. When the world shut down and stages went dark\, Wilson and Beggins found themselves back in a room together\, preparing for online performances\, rediscovering the spark that shaped their earliest songs. Within minutes\, new material poured out - an organic reminder of the ease and honesty that has always defined their collaboration. The band reunited with longtime musical family and stepped into the studio with the same sense of openness and urgency that fueled their earliest recordings\, capturing raw\, unvarnished performances that leaned into emotion over perfection.\n\nWild Child’s creative community has always been central to their story - whether weathering a Texas ice storm together\, writing by candlelight when power went out\, or inviting new voices into their creative circle. Over the years\, the band has continued to expand its sonic world while staying grounded in heartfelt songwriting and the distinct vocal interplay that first drew fans in. Their music reflects resilience\, connection\, and the messy joy of making something together when it matters most.\n\nToday\, Wild Child is following their curiosity wherever it leads: building out their label imprint Reba’s Ranch Records and diving into Wild Child for Kids\, a project that lets them explore the same heart and imagination of their music through a family-friendly lens. With an ever-growing family of collaborators and a renewed commitment to making music on their own terms\, the band remains a defining voice in the vibrant indie-folk musical landscape\, continually finding new ways to surprise themselves and the listeners who have followed them from the beginning.

SUMMARY:Performance:East Nash Grass
DESCRIPTION:“fast picking\, bright harmonies\, and timeless lyricism” –Glide Magazine\n\nHow did East Nash Grass follow up their 2024 International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) award for Best New Artist? By earning a nomination for Entertainer of the Year\, IBMA’s highest honor\, in 2025\, and celebrating fiddler Maddie Denton’s win as Fiddler of the Year. In short\, East Nash Grass have quickly established themselves as the fresh new face of Nashville’s storied bluegrass tradition\, a supergroup of rising stars: Grand Master Fiddle champion Denton is joined by banjo player Cory Walker (banjo player on the five-time nominated “Carter & Cleveland” album this year\, among numerous accolades)\, 2022 IBMA Momentum Mandolin Player of the Year Harry Clark\, and charismatic frontman James Kee. This is an all-star band that harkens back to the sort of talent collected in the original Blue Grass Boys and a powerhouse leader of the next generation in bluegrass excellence.\n\nRolling Stone had them among the “best of what we saw” at RockyGrass in 2025\, praising their “rowdy set of high-octane bluegrass numbers\,” and noting\, “The group itself is a rapidly-rising force on the national touring scene.”\n\nAnd “rowdy” is right. They are far more than just a group of impressive instrumental technicians\, building on night after night of three-set gigs on Nashville’s East Side\, playing tiny stages for the love of it between tours backing bigger acts. It’s a hard-forged bond that translates into an infectious on-stage energy that audiences can’t seem to get enough of.\n\nWith their new release\, “All God’s Children” (Mountain Fever\, August 22\, 2025)\, they show a depth and feel\, too\, that goes well beyond the traditional bluegrass fair\, with nods to Gypsy jazz and East Village folk\, and eye toward moving bluegrass forward and keeping it from being too mired in the past. If East Nash Grass isn’t the future of the genre it’s only because they’re already among its leading lights.

They’ve shared the stage with the Nashville Symphony Orchestra\, Kelsea Ballerini\, Lady A\, and Pentatonix\, but their signature sound remains unmistakably their own—fusing folk\, pop\, and sibling magic to create music that moves the soul. \n\nIn April 2026\, Girl Named Tom will hit the road on a nationwide tour promoting their new album\, Dust to Dust. The momentum will keep rolling with a performance on NBC’s The Voice in early April\, alongside an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show shortly thereafter.

SUMMARY:Performance:Moonmill
DESCRIPTION:Ethereal folk pop stories\n\nMoonmill is a folk pop duo based in Brooklyn\, NY. Nine years after meeting in high school choir class in Ann Arbor\, Mary Collins and Kaye Hamada accidentally moved two blocks away from each other in Brooklyn and realized that the songwriting partners they’d been looking for had been one text away all along. One song led to another\, and Moonmill came to be! Through sophisticated guitar lines and rich\, crystal clear vocal harmonies\, Moonmill blends classic Simon & Garfunkel-esque folk sensibilities with contemporary singer/songwriter confessional lyricism and ethereal pop production elements\, creating songs that feel like entire worlds listeners can escape to.

SUMMARY:Performance:Bill Kirchen
DESCRIPTION:Album release party!\n\nBill apparently got off his butt and recorded a bunch of new songs. Given that Ann Arbor is his ancestral home\, and the very place he and some like-minded souls formed Commander Cody and his Lost Planet Airmen\, Bill has promised not to wear you out with too much inscrutable new material. He has assured us that he’ll also bring some reminiscences with a good selection of songs from his checkered past. And as we've never been able to get him out of here without him launching into a few Dylan songs\, we’ll be on guard for that as well. What else? Oh yes\, he did say he had some home town Stories That Can Finally Be Told\, but offered no assurances that he will remember them. He also said\, tell ‘em I’m bringing my Texas band Rick Richards and Jack Saunders for the full Honky-Tonk Rock’n'Roll experience\, and that I’m quite a bit jollier than that picture would indicate. \n\nGrammy nominated guitarist\, singer and songwriter Bill Kirchen is one of the fortunate few who can step on any stage\, play those trademark licks which drove the seminal Commander Cody classic Hot Rod Lincoln into the Top Ten nationwide\, and elicit instant recognition. Named a “Titan of the Telecaster” by Guitar Player Magazine\, he celebrates a musical tradition that embraces rock ‘n’ roll\, blues and bluegrass\, Texas Western swing and California honkytonk. Nick Lowe describes Bill as “... a devastating culmination of the elegant and funky… a really sensational musician\, with enormous depth.” Justly famous for his indelible Telecaster sound\, Bill Kirchen has been everywhere over the span of a 50-plus-year career: he was a founding member of the legendary Commander Cody and his Lost Planet Airmen\; he released a dozen critically acclaimed solo albums\; he toured internationally with Nick Lowe and has performed or recorded with Doug Sahm\, Gene Vincent\, Elvis Costello\, Dan Hicks\, Emmylou Harris\, Linda Ronstadt \,Bruce Hornsby and Link Wray.

SUMMARY:Performance:The High Kings
DESCRIPTION:“A Folk Juggernaut” –The New York Times \n\nAs global ambassadors of Irish heritage and storytelling\, The High Kings have consistently brought the timeless tradition of folk music to audiences worldwide\, earning them chart-topping success and widespread acclaim. With their signature blend of classic tradition and modern edge\, The Rocky Road Tour promises to be a vibrant showcase of Irish culture\, energy\, and musicality. \n\nFollowing a record-breaking 2024 – including a sold-out world tour\, a feature on Disney’s critically acclaimed Only Murders in The Building\, and over 5 million weekly streams – the band are showing no signs of slowing down. Their momentum continued in 2025 with a string of sold-out U.S. tour dates.\n\nBut it was their inclusion on the soundtrack of Sinners\, starring Michael B. Jordan and directed by Ryan Coogler\, that marked a defining moment in their global recognition. The film’s soundtrack\, already topping international streaming charts\, was curated by Oscar- and Grammy-winning composer Ludwig Göransson\, a long-time admirer of The High Kings’ distinctive vocal blend and musicianship. After attending their sold-out show at The Troubadour in Los Angeles earlier this year\, Göransson selected two tracks—“The Rocky Road to Dublin” and “Go Lassie Go”—to feature prominently in the film’s score.\n\nThe Rocky Road Tour 2026 will build on this global success\, offering audiences a high-energy live show that reinforces The High Kings’ place at the forefront of Irish folk. With a renewed focus on storytelling\, musicianship\, and connection\, the tour reflects the group’s ongoing commitment to honouring Ireland’s folk legacy while pushing creative boundaries.

SUMMARY:Performance:Fink
DESCRIPTION:New music!\n\nThe City Is Coming to Erase It All is Fink’s ninth studio album\, following 2024’s Beauty In Your Wake. Recorded in Zennor\, Cornwall\, the album was made with a strict era-specific approach. Imagining a record Michael Chapman might have made\, right down to the guitar strings. Grammy-winning producer Sam Okell helped guide the process: “If it didn’t exist in 1974\, you’re not allowed to use it.”\n\nBut this is nowstalgia\, not nostalgia. “I want something new\, but with the same ethos\,” singer Fin Greenall explains. There’s a parallel between the restless 18-year-olds Fink once were and the autumn-aged family men they are now. Touring remains a compulsion as much as a joy\, despite having played every major European city countless times. “The need to play your new material is so overwhelming that it trumps all the comforts and trinkets.”\n\nCity is a product of this hunger for discovery\, and idolatry of the album as a form – like we had in 1974. City’s cover mirrors its interior\, the first song is the greeting\, the instrumental closer the conclusion. It’s a story. It’s a record for people who\, like its creators\, are curious. People who happily face a little cold for music\, who light a crackling fire back home\, who sit with these songs until they’re ready to chase after their own blue sky.

SUMMARY:Performance:Raynes
DESCRIPTION:Sophisticated\, irresistibly catchy folk-pop\n\nBritish-American trio Raynes formed when Mat Charley and Joe Berger\, both born and raised in North Dakota\, came across a video of UK native Mark Race on Instagram and fell in love—first with his face\, then with his voice. After a few messages and phone calls\, Mark was on a plane to the US to start a band (a few months later\, he had the flight number tattooed on his arm).\n\nSince then\, Raynes has signed with Sony Music Publishing and released six singles and four EPs\, drawing hundreds of thousands of monthly listeners and tens of millions of streams and earning press in Billboard and People. They’ve performed at BottleRock Festival and in clubs\, concert halls\, and amphitheaters across the US and the UK\, developing a reputation as a high-energy live act.\n\nIn 2025\, Raynes’ rendition of “I Want You to Want Me” was featured in an episode of Love Is Blind on Netflix.\n\nKnown for their intricate vocal harmonies and unique instrumentation as well as their poetic lyrics\, Raynes has yet to come up with a good answer as to what genre their music falls under. With all three members coming from different musical backgrounds\, the boys combine their diverse influences to form a group that draws inspiration from around the globe\, incorporating elements of folk\, rock\, and chamber pop with Celtic and world music to create a wholly original—and difficult to categorize—sound.

DESCRIPTION:“While the band tends to describe its sound as Southwestern rock ’n’ roll\, you’ll also hear influences of Tejano and Conjunto\, the Pogues\, the British Invasion\, and even New Age — capturing the breadth of music in the Lone Star State.” \n–Texas Music\n\nFeaturing five musicians who grew up in El Paso\, Lubbock and Amarillo\, the West Texas Exiles draw upon the wide-open western reaches of the Lone Star State with a wide-ranging\, Americana-centered sound. Rising from the embers of the Dirty River Boys\, which Marco Gutierrez co-founded in 2009\, the Austin band features a triple-threat of songwriters in Gutierrez\, Daniel Davis and Colin Gilmore (son of legendary Texas troubadour Jimmie Dale Gilmore)\, plus seasoned bassist Eric Harrison and latter-day Dirty River Boys drummer Trinidad Leal. The Exiles' 2023 debut EP paved the way for their first full-length album\, 8000 Days\, due out later this year. The recordings build upon the live chops the group has honed through a weekly residency at Austin’s legendary Continental Club plus gigs at key local events such as SXSW and Willie Nelson’s Luck Reunion\, as well as high-profile touring appearances at Nashville’s Americanafest\, Braun Brothers Reunion and San Francisco’s Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival.

DESCRIPTION:“Johnson draws from the same well as John Prine or Tom Waits\, filtering the light of daily life through the grimy windows of a barroom” –Paste Magazine\n\nWith I Hope We Can Still Be Friends\, his debut for Saddle Creek\, Dean Johnson makes a pact with the listener: He will sing you his truth in the most heartfelt and charming way possible\, if you promise to keep an open mind.\n\nJohnson spent years tending bar at Al’s Tavern in Seattle’s Wallingford neighborhood. There\, he encountered folks of all stripes\; and regulars enthusiastically murmured about his budding musical greatness — There’s the best songwriter in town! Johnson was a kind of local lore\, a long-held family secret\, before the singer finally broke out in 2023 with his debut album\, Nothing For Me Please\, at age 50.\n\nI Hope We Can Still Be Friends is essentially an anthology that bridges Johnson’s earliest days as a songwriter with his present-day outlook and abilities. There are songs that have been in his setlists for years\, and others that will be new to fans. Each of its 11 tracks contains jocular social commentary or lovingly rendered affairs of the heart. \n\nLike John Prine or Kris Kristofferson’s country-adjacent sound\, devastating humor and economical profundity refracted through a barroom’s haze\, the album is filled with easygoing twang\, sad characters\, universal truths and the absurdity of everyday life.

SUMMARY:Performance:California Guitar Trio
DESCRIPTION:Celebrating 35 years\n\nFor 35 years\, California Guitar Trio (CGT) has redefined what a small ensemble can achieve on one stage. Since forming in 1991\, the group has captivated audiences with a singular sound that fearlessly crisscrosses genres — blending rock\, jazz\, classical\, and global influences\, with the occasional surf or spaghetti Western twist for good measure.\n\nFounded by Paul Richards\, Bert Lams\, and Hideyo Moriya\, CGT emerged from the creative lineage of guitarist Robert Fripp and quickly built a reputation for precision\, interplay\, and adventurous musical exploration. Today\, the trio continues its evolution with Paul Richards\, Bert Lams\, and Chapman Stick player Tom Griesgraber\, who joined the group in 2020. Griesgraber’s addition expanded the ensemble’s sonic palette with deep bass textures\, orchestral layering\, and new harmonic possibilities while preserving CGT’s signature musical language.\n\nEqually known for dazzling musicianship and genuine connection with audiences\, CGT concerts blend intricate three-part counterpoint with storytelling\, humor\, and an inviting stage presence that makes listeners feel like participants rather than spectators.

SUMMARY:Performance:David Nail: Down To The Studs
DESCRIPTION:Hailing from Kennett\, Missouri\, David Nail is well-respected up and down Music Row. Some might even call him a “tour de force” as his songs pull no punches in evoking the demons with which he has wrestled through much of his life. \n\nThe GRAMMY-nominated multi-platinum singer/songwriter’s early releases\, I’m About To Come Alive\, The Sound Of A Million Dreams\, I’m A Fire and Fighter\, ignited his reputation as an innovator and creative risk-taker yet left Nail feeling restless. This led to the departure of the only record company home he’d ever known\, MCA Nashville\, where he’d formed friendships that endure even now. Through dealing with his own journey of mental health and the feeling of needing to “rebel against what people expect you to be\,” Nail began making his most “organic” work to date\, David Nail & The Well Ravens\, with Jason Hall and Andrew Petroff. That project liberated Nail and propelled him into his next adventure. Writing solo for the next few months led to his debut solo independent EP Oh\, Mother\, a reflective piece of work. Of the title track\, Rolling Stone noted that “the song creeps in like a sunrise — quiet\, restrained cello and keys are the only underpinning for Nail’s powerful vocals at first. But then it slowly builds to something more massive and majestic.” That release was followed by Bootheel 2020 and Bootheel 2021\, projects dedicated to the singer/songwriter’s hometown in the “bootheel” of Missouri. Nail released an EP titled Best of Me in 2023 and the title track has seen heavy press support and country radio airplay. 2024 brought more touring than ever\, two great single releases “If I Could Call” and “Why” featuring Aubrie Sellers. \n\nNail plans on releasing the start of an excitingly different and elevated album project this year leaving behind any self-imposed restrictions. In Nail’s own words\, “My philosophy has always been\, I just hope to have a good enough year that I can have a next year while staying as true to myself as I possibly can.”

SUMMARY:Performance:The Bros. Landreth: Tumbling Wild Tour 2026
DESCRIPTION:New Music!\n\nThe Bros. Landreth are two-time JUNO Award winners from Winnipeg\, known for their blend of guitar-driven\, soulful\, blood harmony roots music. The band\, the core of which consists of brothers Dave and Joey Landreth\, has earned critical acclaim and a dedicated audience for their heartfelt songs\, inventive musicianship\, and powerful performances. From their early days attending their father's gigs as babies (\"Mom would tuck us into a bassinet and slide us under the bar tables\,\" says Dave)\, the brothers have spent a lifetime touring rock clubs\, theatres\, and music festivals across North America\, the UK\, Europe\, and Australia\, including stand-out performances at Byron Bay Blues Festival in Australia and Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival in Los Angeles. In 2023\, a banner year for the band\, Joey and Dave became Grammy-winning songwriters when Bonnie Raitt’s cover of their song\, Made Up Mind (from their first album\, Let it Lie)\, earned the Grammy for Americana Performance of the Year. The recognition was a fitting nod from one of their musical heroes\, as their own music draws inspiration from the well-worn records of their childhood — Bonnie Raitt's blues\, Little Feat's funky country-rock\, Ry Cooder's eclectic instrumentals\, Lyle Lovett's twangy traditionalism — culminating in a sound that salutes the past while planting its flag firmly in the present.\n\nDrawing on the energy of their recent live shows and a newfound sense of creative purpose\, The Bros. Landreth returned to the studio for their fourth full-length album\, Dog Ear. This record captures the spontaneous and collaborative spirit of their touring band\, which includes drummer Roman Clarke and producer Murray Pulver\, and marks a new\, more effortless approach to songwriting. The band describes the album as a deeply personal and emotionally resonant work\, exploring themes of family and the quest for stability amidst the itinerant life of a touring musician\, and says it's \"really about trying to figure out what it means to be a consistent force in the lives of the people you care about.\" With songs like the title track written for their children\, the album captures a raw and focused energy in the studio\, featuring a handful of magical first takes and special collaborations with pop vocalist Begonia\, keyboardist Glenn Patscha\,and a powerful guest vocal performance from their longtime hero\, Bonnie Raitt\, who appears on two tracks (Knuckles\, Half Moon Eyes).

DESCRIPTION:“Buoyant\, soulful” –Billboard \n\nBeloved London-born\, Brooklyn-based singer/songwriter Teddy Thompson has returned with the exquisitely crafted Never Be The Same\, his first collection of original material since 2020. Across ten tracks\, Thompson refines his craft via an exploration of music’s enduring preoccupations — love\, longing\, and the uneasy passage of time.\n\nThis album wasn’t built upon a grand narrative. There was no self-imposed exile\, no forced reinvention. Instead\, it is centered around an exhortation that is threaded through the songs like a refrain: “Never Be The Same\,” its title only revealing itself to Thompson after he’d completed the recording.\n\n“It’s a phrase that\, unconsciously\, I used twice. And when I saw it on the page\, I realized\, this is the message of this album\,” says Thompson. “Don’t ever be the same. Change. Grow! Even when the sentiment is\, woe is me\, I’ll never recover after that love or loss. The message is still\, change. Don’t get too comfortable. Everything is temporary\, so evolve or perish!”\n\nThis pull and tension between comfort and change runs quietly throughout Never Be The Same\, Thompson’s 11th album\, which was produced by renowned Grammy Award–winning musician/producer David Mansfield. At the core is Thompson’s longstanding commitment to songwriting as a form\, inspired by early influences like Chuck Berry\, Hank Williams\, and Crowded House\, as well as the towering figures of the craft — Bob Dylan\, Leonard Cohen\, The Beatles\, and\, certainly\, his parents\, British folk icons Richard and Linda Thompson.\n\nUltimately\, Never Be The Same is an album about steady evolution\, a suite of deeply considered\, carefully constructed songs rooted in lived experience. If there is a message\, it’s that change is not only inevitable but essential — even when you’d rather stay exactly where you are.

SUMMARY:Performance:Riders in the Sky
DESCRIPTION:Award-winning harmonies\, wacky Western wit and high-yodeling adventures\n\n40 years. It seemed to go by in a blur\, pounding the road\, seeing the world\, raising babies and sending them to college\, mowing lawns\, romances\, marriages\, high school drama\, endless airports\, the nights at the Hollywood Bowl\, the night at the Red Barn in Louisville dodging various barroom projectiles\, frozen diesel lines\, blast furnace desert heat\, hours of practice\, late nights and early mornings\, and lots and lots and lots of laughter.\n \n40 years ago. No laptops\, no cellular phones\, no Google\, no downloads\, no Skype\, no Tweets\, no Apple\, no Microsoft\, no texting\, no electric cars\, no Uber. A different world. But there were three young men with drive and wit who wanted to keep a special music alive. They believed in preserving the heritage of Western Music and presenting it to a new generation. They believed in entertaining\, and they did so… entertaining themselves as well as the audience! And they believed in creating original Western Music to continue the tradition\, not just seal it in amber as a museum piece. What they did not realize at the time was that they would be doing the same thing 40 years later.\n \n40 years ago\, Ranger Doug\, Too Slim and the late Windy Bill Collins played that first date on the bitter cold evening of November 11th\, 1977 at Herr Harry’s Frank N’ Stein Rathskeller in Nashville\, and small listening room dates followed. By August of the following year demand was building\, and while Windy Bill left\, Woody Paul joined\, and the true professional beginnings of the band began at the Kentucky State Fair\, where the trio played 10 days for $2500- and bought their own rooms and meals out of that!\n \nA first wave followed\, including appearances on Austin City Limits\; recording contracts with Rounder\, then MCA\, then Columbia\; guest appearances on the Grand Ole Opry leading to membership in 1982\; and a three-year run on The Nashville Network with a TV show called “Tumbleweed Theater\,” which yet in turn led to a seven-year run on public radio with “Riders Radio Theater. People Magazine\, interested in the Riders phenomenon\, ran a story which happily caught the eye of a Hollywood producer.\n \nAnd so the second wave broke\, sending the boys to Hollywood to star in “Riders In The Sky” on CBS for a year on Saturday mornings\, introducing them to yet another generation. More recordings\, endless show dates\, and television appearances followed for a decade before the fine folks at Pixar called and asked the quartet – by this time they had been joined by Joey the Cowpolka King – to sing a tune called “Woody’s Roundup” in the movie “Toy Story 2.” Thus\, the third wave began\, highlighted by a number of projects for Disney\, including two albums\, both of which won GRAMMY Awards!\n \nThe creation of satellite radio has recently given them a new platform\, as they continue to produce episodes of the award winning “Classic Cowboy Corral” on Sirius/XM.\n \nStill more road dates and recordings (several on their own Riders Radio Records label) and other film and television projects have filled the days and weeks and years\, and since the quartet has slowed up very little\, the numbers begin to add up: an astonishing 7\,200+ appearances\, 35 years on the Grand Ole Opry\, 40 records albums (well\, now CDs\,) and tours of all 50 states and all over the world. Honors accumulated as well. In addition to the two Grammy Awards\, Riders received numerous awards from the Western Music Association\, including the highest: membership in the Western Music Hall of Fame\; numerous Wrangler awards from the Cowboy Hall of Fame and Western Heritage Museum\; awards from the Academy of Western Artists\; enshrinement in the Walkway of Western Stars\, and more. What began as a celebration of classic Western Music and an evening of hilarity has become a career\, and that career has become a legend\, one which\, 40 years on\, shows no signs of stopping or even slowing down much.\n \nRanger Doug\, Too Slim\, Woody Paul and Joey the Cowpolka King… 40 years on\, “The Cowboy Way.”

SUMMARY:Performance:Bedouine
DESCRIPTION:“humble folk-pop brilliance” –Rolling Stone\n\nAs a child\, if you’re lucky\, summer afternoons stretch out like a yawn\, pool waves are as warm and engulfing as a blanket\, the safety of your mother’s arms feels endless. On her new album\, Neon Summer Skin\, Bedouine\, the project of Azniv Korkejian\, explores this feeling of safety long before one can fully understand the concept. Written with vivid\, honest and intimate imagery after visiting her family in Saudi Arabia\, it tells the story of family and upbringing\, and mourns the end of her childhood. There is a singular resonance and newfound heft in this music previously unheard in Bedouine’s discography. \n\nBedouine is known for making gentle\, lilting folk songs that build fingerpicked guitar melodies into tsunamis of emotion. Her masterful songwriting and timeless melodies have earned her praise from publications like Pitchfork\, who said her music “boasts a surreal calm and lived in glow\,” and Rolling Stone\, who lauded her “humble folk-pop brilliance\,” plus an NPR Tiny Desk Concert\, and tours with the likes of Fleet Foxes and Father John Misty. \n\nAs personal as her songs have been\, they’ve often built upon universal experiences. The writing on Neon Summer Skin\, however\, is full of specific memories: a neon swim suit\, beads of water dripping down tangled hair\, the blood of a lamb\, often sacrificed at Syrian weddings\, oozing across the pavement. “It was the first time I had the inclination to write a record about one main subject which gave me a clarity and motivation I hadn't quite had before.” \n\nBedouine started working on the record after a trip to Saudi Arabia to visit her parents. She correctly assumed it would be her last one there because her family was retiring to Armenia. “For my 20s and much of my 30s\, I couldn’t sit still\,” she says. “I would pack my car and move to a new place. I was so curious about my own independence that it just didn't occur to me for the longest time to mourn the past. But after that trip\, I came home and was so devastated. I couldn't place the feeling immediately\, but as I started writing\, I realized I was processing that I wasn’t ready to stop being somebody’s kid. \n\nShe co-produced most of the songs with her longtime collaborator\, Gus Seyffert\, and wrote with the sweet pop melodies of Todd Rundgren\, Karen Carpenter\, and Carole King in mind. She also worked on a couple of tracks with producer Jonathan Rado with Michael and Brian D’Addario of the Lemon Twigs. “It was important to me to try to approach some of the production of this record a little differently\, just to try something new\,” she says. The result is a fuller\, more playful sound\, at times grand and orchestral\, shimmery and surreal\, inflected with bits of psychedelia\, bossa nova\, and jazz.

SUMMARY:Performance:Kim Richey
DESCRIPTION:“an artist known for beguiling melodies and a supple turn of a phrase.” –American Songwriter\n\nIn January 2024\, Kim Richey found herself in Mexico\, gazing out at a sea of people singing along to “I’m Alright\,” one of her classic tracks. The three folks on stage with the veteran\, Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter were also raising their voices in harmony. To her right sat Brandi Carlile\, to her left\, Mary Chapin Carpenter and Brandy Clark. The formidable foursome was participating in a songwriter’s round only half-jokingly dubbed “Titans of Americana” at Carlile’s female-forward Girls Just Wanna Weekend festival on the Riviera Maya in Mexico.\n\n“That was nuts looking out and seeing everybody arm-waving and singing along\,” says Richey\, still both incredulous and cheered by the memory of performing with that supergroup and later appearing alongside other Girls Just Wanna Weekend-ers Annie Lennox\, Lucius\, Allison Russell\, and Sarah McLachlan among others. “It was just like\, ‘wow’!”\n\nThe good news for fans of this particular Titan is a whole new batch of songs to sing along with and arm wave to with the release of her 10th studio album Every New Beginning. The 10 songs on Every New Beginning represent the full spectrum of the Ohio native’s gifts as both a revered songwriter who can leap from melancholy to mirthful in a single couplet — whose songs have been recorded by the likes of Brooks and Dunn\, Patty Loveless\, and Mary Chapin Carpenter — and owner of one of music’s truly celestial voices. \n\nThat voice\, which Brandi Carlile has cited as formative in crafting her own style\, is a widely sought after harmony instrument and has been featured on scores of albums including Jason Isbell’s acclaimed Southeastern\, Trisha Yearwood’s Everybody Knows\, Heartbreaker by Ryan Adams\, Reba McEntire’s Starting Over\, and Has Been by Capt. Kirk himself\, William Shatner\, among many others.
