In this talk, I will discuss how modest levels of control can be used to access key observables and dynamical regimes in strongly correlated fermionic systems, including settings with pairing, long-range interactions, and cooling. I will also describe how globally controlled analog platforms can nevertheless achieve universal quantum computation, and how optimal-control techniques can be used to engineer complex effective interactions and topological dynamics. Finally, I will outline recent progress toward approximate error correction tailored to analog quantum systems. Together, these developments point toward a broader view of analog quantum computing, in which large-scale quantum devices are not only simulators of specific models, but flexible computational resources whose capabilities can be systematically unlocked.\n\nBio\nSusanne Yelin's research interests are in theoretical quantum optics and quantum information science. Our contribution to this progress has been the development of an experimental\nplatform that creates ultracold quantum fluids in spatiotemporally programmable optical\npotentials, engineered with advanced electro-optic devices.\nIn this talk, I will share our explorations into the physics of fermions confined in \u2018boxes of\nlight\u2019, a deceptively simple stage that gives rise to remarkably rich behavior [1]. Highlights\ninclude few-body recombination in multicomponent fermions [2,3], the first observation of\nthe quantum Joule\u2013Thomson effect for fermions [4], strong-drive spectroscopy of Fermi-\npolaron quasiparticles [5], the first direct observation of the Lindhard response [6], the\nobservation of the emergence and breakdown of Fermi\u2019s Golden Rule in a strongly\ninteracting system [7], and the unveiling of a new correspondence between short-time and\nlong-time behavior in quantum dynamics [8]. Together, these studies span a wide range of\ntopics\u2014thermodynamics, few-body physics, quantum impurity problems, and\nhydrodynamics\u2014showcasing both long-predicted effects finally brought into view and\nsurprising new phenomena.\n[1] N.
