DESCRIPTION:Explore the many water-related research opportunities at the University of Michigan. Water is an essential resource for Michigan\, providing sustenance to people and crops\, transportation of goods\, and income from recreation and tourism. As such\, there are many opportunities at U of M related to water conservation\, quality\, and management. This event will feature a lightning-panel of five people involved in Michigan research into water issues in order for students to get a better idea of the research opportunities available to them and how to get involved. Each person will give a five minute presentation on their research and then there will be thirty minutes of questions from the moderator and the audience. Coffee\, tea\, and snacks will be provided. DESCRIPTION:Research environments are shaped not only by academic interests and professional goals\, but also by the identities\, experiences\, and perspectives that each person brings. In this interactive workshop\, students will explore what it means to develop a sense of belonging within research and academic spaces. Participants will consider how identity can influence relationships with mentors\, research teams\, and institutions\, while reflecting on the strengths they bring to their work. Through guided discussion\, personal reflection\, and practical scenarios\, students will identify strategies for building supportive relationships\, communicating across differences\, responding to challenges\, and navigating research environments with confidence. The session will also highlight resources and networks that can help students feel supported and empowered throughout their research experience.
