DESCRIPTION:We study the perturbative S-matrix of the c=1 string and show that it admits a description in terms of a double-scaled matrix integral. DESCRIPTION:Eva Albalghiti performs on the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Carillon\, an instrument of 60 bells with the lowest bell (bourdon) weighing 6 tons.\n\nThirty-minute recitals are performed on the Lurie Carillon every weekday that classes are in session. During these recitals\, visitors may take the elevator to level 2 to view the largest bells\, or to level 3 to see the carillonist performing. (Visitors subject to acrophobia are recommended to visit level 2 only.) An optional spiral stairway between levels 2 and 3 allows for up-close views of some of the largest bells.

DESCRIPTION:Clean energy is widely framed as a public health win. So why does it often trigger opposition\, and how should those conflicts be resolved? Using Michigan as a grounding case\, the panel explores what happens when health evidence\, local governance\, equity concerns and climate goals collide - and what we can do about it to meet urgent climate goals. This timely conversation will be moderated by Eliza Barclay\, climate opinion editor at The New York Times\, whose work explores how science\, climate policy and public trust collide. DESCRIPTION:So far\, we've mostly talked about torsion classes for Dynkin quivers\, which give the Tamari lattice and other Cambrian lattices. This week\, we will talk about torsion classes for preprojective algebras\, which give the weak order on Coxeter groups of types A\, D\, and E. As usual\, we will do many examples using the symmetric group\, where the stability fan turns out to be the braid arrangement.

SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:Math Grad Show and Tell Seminar: PDE in AG\, and AG in PDE?
DESCRIPTION:Algebraic geometry studies geometric shapes using algebraic methods. But somehow differential equations show up! I will give an overview of what algebraic geometers (at large) care about while highlighting the role analysis plays: for example\, hodge theory uses elliptic equations to study topology of complex manifolds\, and Monge–Ampère equations are fundamental in the study of Calabi—Yaus\, the so-called hidden dimension of the universe.\n\nConversely\, AG also gives back to differential geometry\, for example by giving algebraic criteria for existence of canonical metrics and helping with moduli problems. This talk is intended to be an introduction to algebraic geometry with a PDE twist\, and no background in either field is needed.
