SUMMARY:Livestream / Virtual:Live Chat with a Lloyd Scholar!
DESCRIPTION:Lloyd Scholars for Writing and the Arts (LSWA) is a diverse and creative living-learning community for students interested in writing and the arts. Through our curriculum\, programs\, student leadership\, faculty involvement\, and cultural events\, we hope to cultivate students' critical reading\, writing\, arts\, and thinking skills\, and promote the link between creativity and academic excellence. In the context of a supportive community\, LSWA challenges students of all skill levels and academic disciplines to take initiative in shaping their intellectual talents\, to work collaboratively with their peers\, to make meaningful connections with faculty and staff\, and to become leaders themselves.\n\nDuring these live chats\, prospective students will meet current LSWA students and leaders who will share their experiences in the program and answer any questions about life in LSWA. Contact lswa@umich.edu for the Zoom link!

SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:Don't Swipe: An Immersive Exploration in Making an Imprint
DESCRIPTION:College is a time when many of us think about the ways we might want to make an imprint on the world. We’re inviting students (individuals and/or groups of friends) to come to the Institute for the Humanities Gallery and explore making an imprint through the work of artist Nicole Marroquin.\n\nMarroquin’s exhibition With Care was created specifically for the Institute for the Humanities Gallery. It puts her printmaking and sculpture in dialogue with Mexican-born artist and educator Diana Solis’s photographs of Chicana and lesbian community organizing. Together\, the work visually articulates the complex and exquisite nature of the human relationships that bind us\, and the imprint these two extraordinary artists have made on the world. This interactive experience includes:A curator-led guided tour of the exhibition\nAn opportunity to reflect on the idea of “making an imprint” by creating your own printmaking block and creating a work of art on paper or a t-shirt\nAn ice-cream sundae bar with lots of toppings!\nPresented by the Public Humanities Interns at the Institute for the Humanities.

SUMMARY:Careers / Jobs:Urban Teachers: The Need for STEM Leaders in Urban Education
DESCRIPTION:Students in historically underserved and excluded urban classrooms are significantly less likely to have access to STEM resources\, experiences\, and classes that are available to their wealthier peers. It is crucial for students to be able to see themselves in their teachers and we need more STEM leaders for students to see a reflection of themselves in.\n\nRepresentation in the education sector matters for a variety of reasons\, particularly as student populations become increasingly diverse.\n\nJoin us as we hear multiple perspectives on the importance of STEM leaders inUrban Education and how guest speakers are leveraging their unique skillsand backgrounds to make an impact in their communities.
