DESCRIPTION:How can renewables such as wind and solar energy produce power for use when the sun isn't shining or the wind ebbs? How can we capture the carbon dioxide that is already in the atmosphere? Join Charles McCrory of the U-M Department of Chemistry and David Kwabi of U-M Mechanical Engineering to discuss new research on renewable energy storage: using renewable electricity to charge batteries and produce chemical fuels like hydrogen that can be used for later energy generation.  We'll also discuss how renewable energy may be used to mitigate climate change by capturing and storing atmospheric carbon dioxide\, or converting it into useful products.\n\nScience Cafés provide an opportunity for audiences to discuss current research topics with experts in an informal setting. \n\nComplimentary hors d’oeuvres at 5:30 p.m.\nThe program begins at 6:00 p.m. \nSeating is limited—come early.\n\nUMMNH would like to thank Conor O’Neill’s for 15 years of support for our Science Cafés. DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the artists in our current exhibit\, Portraits of Feminism in Japan\, on Wednesday\, March 22nd with a reception and roundtable conversation.\nReception (in person): 6:00 - 7:00 pm ET\, Lane Hall Exhibit Space\n\nArtists’ Roundtable (hybrid): 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. ET in Lane Hall 2239 or on Zoom\n\nAbout the exhibit:\n\nThe exhibit features original works by nine incredible contemporary artists. The involved artists are U-M students\, local artists\, and artists based in Japan\, all of whom are nominated by members of our community. \n\nThis exhibit presents portraits of eight feminists who have shaped the landscape of women's and gender rights in Japan and beyond. The portraits and accompanying texts challenge simplistic understandings of \"feminism\" while also drawing attention to a diversity of experiences\, needs\, and activism within Japan. This exhibit will also spotlight the history of Japanese studies at the University of Michigan in conjunction with the Center for Japanese Studies' 75th anniversary celebration. \n\nPortraits of Feminism in Japan will run through 12 May 2023. The exhibit space is located on the first floor of Lane Hall (204 South State Street) through the main entryway. The exhibit is open for viewing M-F 9am-4pm or by appointment.
