DESCRIPTION:In today’s research world\, presentations can take place in person as a talk or poster presentation\, online via Zoom\, or via pre-recorded videos\, and strong visuals are essential to their success. These visuals can take many forms\, including graphs\, tables\, charts\, photos\, and embedded videos. In this workshop\, you will learn how to select appropriate visuals and integrate them with spoken and written text in order to best communicate your scholarship to different audiences. We will analyze presentations from a variety of disciplines in order to identify what makes them effective. Please bring a presentation you are currently working on or have presented in the past and  be prepared to participate in small group discussions.

DESCRIPTION:Kenneth Bozeman\, Professor of Music\, tenor\, holds performance degrees from Baylor University and the University of Arizona\, and subsequently studied at the State Conservatory of Music in Munich on a Rotary fellowship. He was chair of the voice department at Lawrence University\, where he received two awards for excellence in teaching. He was awarded the Van Lawrence Fellowship by the Voice Foundation in 1994 for his interest in voice science and pedagogy. His former students have sung with Houston Grand\, Boston Lyric\, Opera Colorado\, Washington\, Wolf Trap\, Seattle\, Deutsche Oper Berlin\, San Francisco\, New York City Opera\, the Metropolitan\, and Santa Fe Opera. He has authored two important books on vocal resonance\, Practical Vocal Acoustics and Kinesthetic Voice Pedagogy. He gives master classes and workshops throughout the world.

DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the artists in our current exhibit\, Portraits of Feminism in Japan\, on Wednesday\, March 22nd with a reception and roundtable conversation.Reception (in person): 6:00 - 7:00 pm ET\, Lane Hall Exhibit SpaceArtists’ Roundtable (hybrid): 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. ET in Lane Hall 2239 or on ZoomAbout the exhibit:The exhibit features original works by nine incredible contemporary artists. The involved artists are U-M students\, local artists\, and artists based in Japan\, all of whom are nominated by members of our community. This exhibit presents portraits of eight feminists who have shaped the landscape of women's and gender rights in Japan and beyond. The portraits and accompanying texts challenge simplistic understandings of \"feminism\" while also drawing attention to a diversity of experiences\, needs\, and activism within Japan. This exhibit will also spotlight the history of Japanese studies at the University of Michigan in conjunction with the Center for Japanese Studies' 75th anniversary celebration. Portraits of Feminism in Japan will run through 12 May 2023. The exhibit space is located on the first floor of Lane Hall (204 South State Street) through the main entryway. The exhibit is open for viewing M-F 9am-4pm or by appointment.
