SUMMARY:Exhibition:Small Works: Prints & Book Objects from Detroit\, 2020–2026
DESCRIPTION:Small Works\nPrints & Book Objects from Detroit 2020–2026\n\nOctober 21 - November 19 \nPublic Reception: Friday\, November 13 from 4:30-6pm.\n\nSmall Works was a print shop ran by Li Chen & Gerald Schulze\, in Detroit\, MI\, from 2020–2026. Mariana Matos joined as the studio assistant\, and later studio manager\, in 2024. Over those six years\, the business grew from an extension of their design practice to a community space that hosts more than 70 classes a year\, open studio for the public\, and year long funded fellowships that investigate practice in art and design related to the Book Arts. In 2026\, they decided to expand community programming\, and to accommodate this expansion closed Small Works\, and formed Center for the Book Arts Detroit (BAD) which operates in the same space.\n\nThis exhibition is a eulogy for the former Small Works shop\, and a celebration of all the people who made work here. It also serves to show what is possible as a community\, when they share space and create work together. \n\nThe work featured is a collection of things printed by Small Works\, by their studiomates Diskette Press\, the publisher Maamoul Press\, and by the community that uses the space.

SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:Women in Supply Chain Studies
DESCRIPTION:Supply chains are the backbone of the global economy. While the fragility\, geography\, and organization of global production networks are at the forefront of supply chain discourse\, the people who make and study consumers’ products are often forgotten. Women especially play a critical role in the production of goods and services and global procurement. \nThe Women in Supply Chains (WiSC) Rackham Interdisciplinary Workshop (RIW) was created to understand these issues and create a space for graduate students interested in the intersection between gender and supply chains. WiSC researches gender disparities in supply chain scholarship and practice to advance awareness and pursue more equitable outcomes. We seek to bring together an interdisciplinary group to collaborate on topics related to our three research pillars: 1) supply chain discourse and governance\, 2) supply chain gender inequities\, and 3) barriers to equitable supply chain research and practice. Our interdisciplinary approach addresses the intersections of gender\, power asymmetries\, and economic exploitation in global production networks. Recent industry research shows that progress on gender representation in supply chains has stalled\, demonstrating a need for sustained academic engagement.\nResearch questions we plan to explore include:To what extent do supply chain theory and discourse rely on or reinforce patriarchal values? What gender-based inequities and power asymmetries exist in global production networks? How can supply chain stakeholders mitigate these inequities? What barriers do gender-marginalized individuals face as supply chain scholars or practitioners? How can we build community for people who work in supply chains? We plan to hold monthly events (approximately 1 hour) on a consistent day of the week (based on the availability of participants/guest speakers). We also plan to attend and promote events on campus (e.g.\, speakers\, lectures) as they relate to gender and supply chains. Planned events include hands-on activities and treks\, including a book club and a manufacturing site tour. Graduate students from all disciplines and gender identities are invited to attend.

SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:Meditopos
DESCRIPTION: The Mediterranean Topographies (“Meditopos”) Rackham Interdisciplinary Workshop brings together diverse graduate students and faculty to explore common interests and develop skills for researching and teaching about Mediterranean lifeworlds. Through reading discussions\, graduate student writing workshops\, Zoom discussions with artists and activists\, a guest lecture\, and a pedagogy and syllabus workshop\, we will explore ‘the Mediterranean’ as an analytical and methodological framework for scholarly inquiry across empirical contexts and disciplinary backgrounds: How can an interdisciplinary\, collaborative approach enrich our understanding of Mediterranean civilizations and cultures and their interconnections? How can this particular world region generate insights with more global implications?\n
