SUMMARY:Meeting:Write-Togethers
DESCRIPTION:Write-Together sessions provide structure\, accountability\, and support for graduate writers working on writing at any stage\, from papers to theses to journal articles to dissertations and more. For each of these sessions\, participants can meet in-person or access a Zoom link and a shared Google document that will serve as a communal virtual space. Students will be invited to post pre-writing goals and post-writing reflections in the document. Writers can also schedule a 10-minute Zoom meeting with Sweetland faculty during each session to discuss writing questions. We will also provide weekly writing strategies to habituate students to best writing practices.\n\nSupported by the Rackham Graduate School and the Sweetland Center for Writing.

DESCRIPTION:This exhibit explores the creativity and utility of an essential part of practically every modern book\, the title page. Such pages signal and inform\, incite pleasure and intrigue\, as well as conceal and mislead. The works shown here from the holdings of the University of Michigan Library illuminate critical moments in the history of books. Students in a Fall 2022 History Lab class researched and created the exhibit.\n\nThe exhibit is available for viewing in the Special Collections Research Center (on the sixth floor of the Hatcher Library)\, Monday-Friday\, 10am-4:30pm.

DESCRIPTION:Over the years\, the institutional policies\, practices\, and discourses surrounding affirmative action have changed drastically\, and with the impending Supreme Court decision\, there is renewed attention to this issue that continues to have a significant impact on how institutions of higher education work to forward diversity\, equity and inclusion (DEI) on their campuses. In the wake of an impending Supreme Court decision on affirmative action\, no matter the legal ramifications of this decision\, institutions must be prepared to continue to lead for DEI in higher education in the face of resistance – whether legal or socio-political. This webinar will feature  leaders and scholars who have experienced state-level affirmative action bans on how they responded and lessons learned as they lead for DEI.

DESCRIPTION:Join 2Fik in conversation with Adi Saleem Bharat for a discussion about deconstructing reified\, oppositional notions of Jewishness and Muslimness through performance art and the possibility of broadening (or queering) our understandings of what it means to be Jewish and Muslim in the twenty-first century. 2Fik is a multidisciplinary artist known for embodying multiple\, unique characters. Through his social and political works\, 2Fik creates lives for characters who almost seem real\, whose stories\, personalities\, and interests are rooted in our world. Each of his creations are conceived in a voyeuristic way that pushes the spectator to wonder what exists beyond the scope of the work. Each character in this humorous and interpretative world becomes a reflection of our society. Québécois by adoption\, French by birth\, and Moroccan by origin\, 2Fik stages his characters much in the manner of a soap opera/reality show\, thus creating a dialogue between reality and fiction that provokes a reflection on our society and our place in it. A pioneer in his field with a nearly twenty-year career\, he masters the art of caricature and encourages the reflection on universality\, equality between men and women\, and the acceptance of oneself as a unique being. His work has been the subject of a number of critical scholarly analyses\, from Denis Provencher's book Queer Maghrebi French: Language\, Temporalities\, Transfiliations (2017) to Gil Hochberg's article \"From 'sexy Semite' to Semitic ghosts: contemporary art between Arab and Jew\" (2020).\n\n\nRegister for the virtual event here: https://myumi.ch/qG26Z\n\nCredit : Albert Zablit
