Morris has used his work to engage in various  social conversations addressing themes of race\, spirituality\, history\, mental wellness and community. As a native  Detroiter\, Morris has always had a fondness for his hometown\, which is evident in his work. \n\nMorris’ artistic influence began to manifest at a very early age\, as he took found objects from around his home and  created new works. However\, his familial connections also informed his development. Grandmother\, Dell Pryor\, a  gallerist in the city of Detroit across four decades\, exposed James to many emerging and master artists. Some of those  names that ultimately influenced and inspired Morris include Adger Cowans\, Hugh Grannum\, Lester Sloan\, Al Loving\,  Gilda Snowden\, Shirley Woodson\, Anthony Barboza\, and Eric Pryor among others. \n\nIn 2008\, Morris founded Definitive Style Exclusive (DSE Detroit)\, a brand that uses an array of visual statements and  designs created with a simple yet blunt approach to touch on difficult and controversial topics within our society. \n\nIn 2019\, Morris began developing an artistic style that combines collage\, photo montage\, and abstract expressionism.  This collage-montage style has led Morris to create a series of figurative works\, that have engaged many within the  artistic community.

Change It Up! is based on a nationally recognized five-step bystander intervention model that develops students’ skills and confidence when intervening in situations that negatively impact campus climate. This workshop explores how students’ identities and experiences impact their interactions inside and outside of the classroom. Through interactive theater\, students apply the five steps to real-life scenarios and have an opportunity to practice and discuss how they can leverage these skills within their campus communities.\nLearning Objectives:\nGain an understanding of what it means to be a bystander and factors that influence intervention\nGain multiple strategies to intervene and disrupt harm\, such as microaggressions\, bias incidents\, stereotyping\, sexual harassment\, etc.\nAct as an ally and educator\, especially when you hold privilege and power and witness harm to those who do not hold privilege and power\nLearn how to receive and respond to feedback about harm you caused\, even if unintentional\nThis workshop is designed for University of Michigan master's students\, doctoral students\, and postdoctoral fellows. DESCRIPTION:The PSC Brown Bag Series runs live and on Zoom this year\, Mondays from 12 to 12:50 p.m.\n\nMatthew Diemer of U-M Education and Psychology and ISR's PSC and RCGD presents::\n\nCritical quantitative methodology: MIMIC models to identify and remediate racial (and other) forms of measurement bias\n\nThe emerging Critical Quantitative (CQ) perspective is anchored by five guiding principles (i.e.\, foundation\, goals\, parity\, subjectivity\, and self-reflexivity) to mitigate racism and advance social justice. Within this broader methodological perspective\, sound measurement is foundational to the quantitative enterprise. Despite the problematic history of measurement\, it can be repurposed for critical and equitable ends. MIMIC (Multiple Indicator and MultIple Causes) models are a measurement strategy to simply and efficiently test whether a measure means the same thing and can be measured in the same way across groups (e.g.\, racial/ethnic and/or gender). Briefly\, MIMIC models are variants of confirmatory factor analyses\, which include an exogenous covariate(s) to test for latent mean differences as well as for differences in items (“DIF\,” or differential item functioning in psychometrics parlance).
