SUMMARY:Exhibition:Humanize the Numbers
DESCRIPTION:Prison Creative Arts Project presents an exhibition of collaborative photography at the Detroit Historical Museum (5401 Woodward Ave. in Detroit)\, open now through May 21st.\n\nA public reception will be held on March 9th\, 6:00–9:00 PM\, with a panel of previous workshop participants at 7:00 PM.\n\nWe hope you will be able to see the exhibit\, and please be in touch if you have any questions.\n\nHumanize the Numbers shows the perspectives of men in Michigan prisons. The prison system regulates every part of an inmate's identity. Instead of using their name\, they are given an ID number. Visiting room photos and mug shots are tightly regulated. Personal info is recorded: height\, weight\, etc. In the process\, their humanity is denied.\n\nThis exhibit at the Detroit Historical Museum reveals the faces and stories of those in prison. It lifts up the voices of those who have been silenced by the criminal legal system. The Humanize the Numbers project gives them a freedom not normally allowed in prison. They share their stories with the world outside. By doing so\, those in prison reclaim their humanity.\n\nMuseum hours\nThursdays–Saturdays: 10:00 AM–5:00PM \nSundays: 1:00–5:00 PM

DESCRIPTION:This exhibit explores the creativity and utility of an essential part of practically every modern book\, the title page. Such pages signal and inform\, incite pleasure and intrigue\, as well as conceal and mislead. The works shown here from the holdings of the University of Michigan Library illuminate critical moments in the history of books. Students in a Fall 2022 History Lab class researched and created the exhibit.\n\nThe exhibit is available for viewing in the Special Collections Research Center (on the sixth floor of the Hatcher Library)\, Monday-Friday\, 10am-4:30pm.

SUMMARY:Exhibition:UN/EARTH
DESCRIPTION:Featuring work by Gina Gibson\, UN/EARTH explores science and art from a mile underground. Located in the former Homestake gold mine in Lead\, South Dakota\, the Sanford Underground Research Facility (SURF) houses experiments that give us a better understanding of the universe. The location—deep underground—provides a near-perfect environment for experiments that need to escape the constant bombardment of cosmic radiation\, which can interfere with the detection of rare physics events. Built in collaboration with the University of Michigan\, the LUX-Zeplin is the world’s most sensitive dark matter experiment. SURF also hosts experiments in biology\, geology and engineering.\n\nGina Gibson is an internationally exhibiting artist and professor of Graphic Design at Black Hills State University. In 2019\, Gibson became the first artist in residence at the Sanford Underground Research Facility. Gibson's work celebrates the search deep below the surface for beauty in the old and new\, the light and dark\, and the known and unknown.\n\nUN/EARTH was developed in collaboration with the U-M Department of Physics\, the Sanford Underground Research Facility and Black Hills State University.

DESCRIPTION:The U-M Concussion Center is proud to host a Special Speaker Series event on Friday\, April 28\, 10:30 am-11:30 am ET\, featuring Dr. Ross Zafonte\, the President of Spaulding Rehabilitation Network and the Earle P. and Ida S. Charlton Professor and Chairman of the Harvard Medical School Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R). During this special event\, Zafonte will give a talk entitled: “Does Repeated Brain Injury Lead to a Maladaptive Phenotype? Can we Untangle the Gordian Knot?”\n\nDr. Zafonte serves as Chief of the Department of PM&R at Massachusetts General Hospital\, Chair of the Department of PM&R at Brigham and Women’s Hospital\, and Senior Vice President of Medical Affairs\, Research\, and Education at Spaulding Rehabilitation Network. Dr. Zafonte’s textbook\, Brain Injury Medicine\, is considered one of the standards in the field of brain injury care.\n\nHis work is presently funded by the NIH\, DOD\, and NIDRR\, and he directs several large clinical treatment trials. His research primarily focuses on understanding mechanisms of recovery after Brain and Spinal Cord Injury. At the RedSox MGH HomeBase program\, he directs the Brain Injury and the Warrior Health and Fitness programs\, and at the Football Players Health Study at Harvard University\, he is the Principal Investigator.  Dr. Zafonte also sees patients in numerous clinics and hospitals in the Boston community\, including former NFL athletes\, as part of a special MGH initiative known as the Brain and Body Program.\n\nDr. Zafonte has published extensively on traumatic brain injuries\, spasticity\, and other neurological disorders and presented on these topics at conferences nationally and internationally. He is the author of more than 300 peer review journal articles\, abstracts\, and book chapters. He is on the Journal of Neurotrauma editorial board and\, in 2020\, was named the Editor in Chief for the Journal of the American Osteopathic Association.  His most recent awards include the Innovative Clinical Treatment Award presented by the North American Brain Injury Society\, the 2020 Distinguished Member Award from the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation\, and a Public Service Medal from the United States Department of the Army for his work with military veterans. \n\nThrough all of Dr. Zafonte’s endeavors – research\, academic\, clinical\, and administrative – he has sought to improve the lives of persons with traumatic brain injury\, spinal cord injury\, and other catastrophic illnesses.\n\nRegistration: https://myumi.ch/x7gzg

DESCRIPTION:The CIC invites students of all academic backgrounds and varying research experience to join the CIC Student Working Groups. Students around the world will join a community of young professionals and researchers interested in the future of COVID-19 and ongoing pandemic research.\n\nOn January 17th\, 2023\, the first successful meeting of the student working groups was conducted with more than 20 students joining from various locations around the globe. The meeting was organized to discuss the challenges and opportunities that students have faced during the COVID-19 pandemicand to develop strategies to pursue research and projects for future impacts. The meeting was a great success\, with students sharing their experiences\, ideas and resources\, and discussing ways to collaborate and support one another. The meeting ended with a plan to continue the meeting regularly and to establish a shared platform to share resources and ideas. Overall\, the meeting was an important step in building a community of students who are committed to exploring pre and post COVID-19 pandemic impact andimplications.
