SUMMARY:Presentation:Networking in and outside of academia
DESCRIPTION:Networking is an essential 'soft skill' both in and out of academia. However\, many people find it mysterious\, intimidating and maybe even a little icky. Come talk with current and former undergraduate and graduate students (most but not all from UM)\, all of whom got their start in psychology and/or neuroscience\, who have been successful in networking in academia\, outside of it\, or a little bit of both. Some have leveraged their networks to help build their scientific careers\, some to help make institutional changes in their departments and/or companies\, to get positions in or out of academia\, or in one case\, to start a $150k business in swing dancing while also doing a cog neuro postdoc. Get their insights on how they got started\, strategies that did and didn't work for them\, and more! Everyone is welcome\, regardless of your career stage and type. We'd love to get some of your questions ahead of time to give them a chance to think about helpful resources - please complete the form here! https://forms.gle/jicgTemtCSNa8fNx5

SUMMARY:Careers / Jobs:Walmart Technology - Building a Future Scenario
DESCRIPTION:The practice of expanding and expounding on the possibilities of the future so that organizations\, companies\, and society can better prepare for the many things to come. This can also be called foresight! \n\nAs defined by the Institute for the Future\, based in Palo Alto\, Cali\, futures thinking is…. They are the world’s leading futures organization that has consulted with businesses\, governments\, and social impact organizations for 50 years to create global forecasts\, custom research\, andforesight. \n\nBy illuminating and thinking critically through all the futures across the spectrum of possibility\, we become stewards of the future. Armed with this knowledge\, we can create action plans that enable ourpreferred futures\, while disabling the non-preferable ones. This is important so that we don’t let the future just happen to us\, but we have anactive hand in what happens. We can prepare for good futures and mitigatebad futures. \n\nThis Walmart-hosted event will have a breakout room chat with Software Engineer/Data Science/Product reps from the business + recruiting overview to wrap up. \n\nPlease be sure to register for the event here: https://walmart.avature.net/events/EventDetail?jobId=82038
