SUMMARY:Careers / Jobs:Healthcare Moneyball – Associate Consultant Position (PhD) in Healthcare Consulting with IQVIA!
DESCRIPTION:Why Moneyball? \n\nNo worries\, we aren’t looking for candidates with backgrounds in sports\, reading Michael Lewis novels\, or indulging in Brad Pitt movies. In the early 2000s\, the Oakland Athletics baseball team implemented enhanced statistical insights to understand the real value of players\, as opposed to “old-school” approaches that are outdated\, subjective\, and often flawed. Using enhanced insights\, the A’s remained a competitive baseball team despite having limited funds to pay high-value players and managers – their unique approach to better gain insight about players had ushered in an era of new thinking to the game and enhanced insights are now a necessity to “play ball” in every industry.\n\nIn our world of healthcare\, ongoing changes in patient insurance coverage\, continued impacts from COVID-19\, increasing industry consolidation\, and the growth in expensive transformative therapeutics continue to challenge the life sciences landscape. These changes at a macro-level have ripple effects across the country. For example\, the “greying” of the US is leading to approximately 15 M people enrolling in Medicare over the next ten years\, but this impact is likely to increase more so in specific states and geographies. Furthermore\, the growth in high deductibles continue to drive higher costs across the landscape of various treatment options. \n\nAs a result\, we support our clients by developing “Moneyball” like solutions to provide better insights for our clients to adapt to a demanding market. Our team uses the power of healthcare data to help manufacturers measure the impact of market access on brand performance and the cascading influence this has on how prescribers and patients gain access to innovative therapies. We support manufacturers by providing deep insights into the geographic variations of patient\, insurer\, and prescriber behavior and thereby help manufacturers implement more effective strategies forsales execution\, insurer contracting\, net revenue optimization\, and all varieties of patient assistance programs. \n\nThe Market Access StrategyConsulting team at IQVIA is comprised of team members with degrees from some of the world’s top institutions. As a new hire\, you will be provided on-the-job training that will allow you to develop the skills and business acumen necessary to successfully navigate the largest and most comprehensive set of US healthcare data assets. The knowledge and experience you build as an Associate will prepare you to generate high-quality insights and analytics for senior leaders at the top pharmaceutical and biotechnologycompanies in the US to address a wide variety of evolving business needs.\n\nPlease join for a deeper dive into the type of work IQVIA’s Market Access Strategy Consulting team does daily. You will hear from two of our top Principals – Ross Perak and Sayantan Niyogi. Access represents one of the most critical barriers to patients accessing the therapies they need. Health insurers restrict patient access to therapies that carry less value for them\, posing an obvious puzzle for us to solve.\n\nAn ideal Associate Consultant (PhD) candidate will have: \n•	Applicants MUST be PhD level\n•	1-2 years of work experience in consulting\, data analytics\, or other relevant areas within the life sciences industry\n•	A strong academic record\, excellent problem-solving abilities\, exceptional communication skills\, strong quantitative skills\, and be a proven team contributor\n•	An interest in and desire to learn about the constantly evolving healthcare industry\n•	Good project management\, time management and organizational skills\n•	Excellent conversational and business English (writtenand oral)\n•	Exceptional IT literacy e.g. Word\, PowerPoint\, Excel (SQL is a plus)\n•	A willingness to travel as needed (10% on average)\n

SUMMARY:Lecture / Discussion:High Stakes Culture: How Do We Understand Abortion\, Control\, and Reproductive Justice?
DESCRIPTION:High Stakes Culture explores the ongoing “culture wars'' and recent cultural flashpoints igniting across the country. Activists from all points of the political spectrum are turning to beloved cultural objects to stake a claim for their differing beliefs. The foundations of public education are being questioned as books are banned and Critical Race Theory is challenged. States are passing laws that attempt to ban or criminalize medical treatment for trans teens and children. And a landmark abortion ruling has spurred national conversations about reproductive justice. \n\nWhat is at stake in the ways we understand culture and cultural conflict? The High Stakes Culture series brings U-M scholars and students together to bring humanities perspectives to bear on compelling issues in the culture now. Join us as we ask: How and why does culture matter so much? \n\nToday\, “High Stakes Culture: How Do We Understand Abortion\, Control\, and Reproductive Justice?” with scholars Lisa Harris (Obstetrics and Gynecology and American studies Phd)\, Ava Purkiss (women's and gender studies and American culture)\, Ruby Tapia (women's and gender studies) and SaraEllen Strongman (Afroamerican and African studies) with moderator Angela Dillard (Afroamerican and African studies\, Residential College\, history) will engage students in a conversation about choice and power and justice.\n\n We will ask questions like: \n\nHow do we understand the new landscape of reproductive rights?\nWhat histories of reproductive rights are useful to know? \nWhat cultural logics are driving changes now?

SUMMARY:Lecture / Discussion:Wynton Marsalis and Warde Manuel: In Conversation
DESCRIPTION:Wynton Marsalis sits down with UM Director of Athletics Warde Manuel to explore art\, athletics\, and the creative process. These two successful New Orleans natives come together in a conversation moderated by Christopher Audain\, Managing Director of the Arts Initiative.\n\nWynton Marsalis is a world-renowned trumpeter\, bandleader and composer\, and a leading advocate of American culture. He presently serves as Managing and Artistic Director of Jazz at Lincoln Center and Director of Jazz Studies at The Juilliard School. Born in New Orleans\, Louisiana in 1961\, Marsalis began his classical training on trumpet at age 12\, entered The Juilliard School at age 17\, and soon thereafter joined Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers. He recorded more than 103 jazz and classical recordings\, which have won nine GRAMMY® awards. In 1983\, he became the first and only artist to win both classical and jazz GRAMMYs® in the same year\, repeating the distinction the following year. Today\, Wynton is the only artist ever to win Grammy Awards® in five consecutive years (1983−1987). In 1997\, Wynton became the first jazz artist to be awarded the prestigious Pulitzer in Music for his oratorio Blood on the Fields. Marsalis has received honorary doctorates from over 25 of America’s top academic institutions including Columbia\, Harvard\, Howard\, Princeton and Yale. In 2001\, he was appointed Messenger of Peace by United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan. In 2005 Wynton received The National Medal of Arts\, the highest award given to artists by the United States government.\n\nWarde Manuel is the Director of Athletics at the University of Michigan. He was a high school All-American football player\, and played for the University of Michigan under Schembechler. After graduating\, Manuel was coordinator of U‑M’s Wade H. McCree Jr. Incentive Scholarship program from 1990 to 1993\, which helps students prepare for higher education at public universities in Michigan. Afterward\, Manuel served in several roles within Michigan’s athletic department\, and was named associate athletic director with oversight responsibility for operation facets of the university’s athletic program. He also oversaw Michigan’s football and men’s basketball programs. In 2012\, Manuel became the director of athletics at the University of Connecticut. UConn teams won six NCAA national championships under Manuel’s leadership. Manuel returned to U‑M following his four-year run at UConn. His return to Ann Arbor brings him full-circle from an accomplished student-athlete and athletic administrator at U‑M to a distinguished career as an athletic director and back again.\n\nThis conversation will be moderated by Christopher Audain\, Managing Director of the Arts Initiative. The University of Michigan Arts Initiative seeks to illuminate and expand human connections\, inspire collaborative creativity\, and build a more just and equitable world through the arts.\n\nIn partnership with the University Musical Society (UMS) as part of a weeklong residency with Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra.\n\nSeries presenting partners: Detroit Public Television and PBS Books.
