SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:Putting the Ace in Sex Ed
DESCRIPTION:Register: https://umich.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_aa5QhNHRV9bA3ZQ?jfefe=new\n\nWhat if your sex ed class included asexuality? Most sexual education is not ace-friendly\, much less ace-focused\, and we're going to take a stab at fixing that! This interactive workshop will focus on defining terms like consent\, desire\, and arousal\, communication in relationships\, setting boundaries\, and being proud of your identity! You will be invited to reflect on how you experience your sexuality and have the opportunity to learn from asexual and ace-spectrum experiences. To see if there is more information about accessing this event\, please visit http://bit.ly/SCeventnav.\n\nSpectrum Center Event Accessibility Statement:\n\nThe Spectrum Center is dedicated to working towards offering equitable access to all of the events we organize. If you have an accessibility need you feel may not be automatically met at this event\, there is space to report that in the registration\, or you can fill out our Event Accessibility Form\, found at http://bit.ly/SCaccess. You do not need to have a registered disability with the Office of Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) or identify as disabled to submit. Advance notice is necessary for some accommodations to be fully implemented\, and we will always attempt to dismantle barriers as they are brought up to us. SUMMARY:Exhibition:Watershed
DESCRIPTION:Watershed brings recent work from sixteen contemporary artists to UMMA for an exhibition that immerses visitors in the interconnected histories\, present lives\, and imagined futures of the Great Lakes region.\n \nSome of these artists give voice to the experiences of communities that have been marginalized\, making personal and visceral the social\, economic\, and political relationships among people\, water\, and land. Others use water as part of their process—whether photography\, painting\, sculpture—to provoke reflection on its ineffable effects on our bodies\, language\, and lives. All demonstrate how art can contribute to and shape current dialogues on the critical problems confronting our region.\n \nThis exhibition will feature new commissions from those listed below as well as works by Dawoud Bey\, Pope L\, LaToya Ruby Fraizer\, Cai Guo-Qiang\, Doug Fogelson\, Matthew Brandt\, and Senghor Reid.\n\nLead support for this exhibition is provided by the U-M Office of the Provost\, the National Endowment for the Arts\, the Michigan Arts and Culture Council\, Susan and Richard Gutow\, and the U-M Institute for the Humanities. Additional generous support is provided by the U-M School for Environment and Sustainability\, Graham Sustainability Institute\, and the Department of English Language and Literature. Special thanks to Margaret Noodin and Michael Zimmerman\, Jr. for translating the gallery texts into Anishinaabemowin.  \n
