SUMMARY:Performance:Amplify Kickback Series | Benefit for Community Partners
DESCRIPTION:Join Amplify and YCS for a special evening to highlight the success and need for public support of the YCHS Music Department\, raising awareness and funds for the brilliance within it. There will be performances from YCHS students with sets from the 2022 Amplify Fellows\, Ki5 and Lorian Janine. The show will also featured words spoken about the program by Crystal Harding (of YCHS) and district leadership regarding the importance of the arts in education for Ypsilanti students and the wider Washtenaw county area.\n \nKi5 Bio | Singer-songwriter and producer Kyler Wilkins\, from Ann Arbor\, Michigan\, has been performing as Ki5 with a loop station capturing original vocal arrangements and covers since 2017. Ki5 delivers familiar genres such as R&B\, pop\, and folk through the lens of an a cappella singer-songwriter. His honest\, empathetic\, and freeing style has been influenced by Reggie Watts\, Bobby McFerrin\, and Bon Iver. In August 2022\, Ki5 released his debut full-length album “Spirit” in partnership with the Amplify Fellowship and Christopher Porter of Ann Arbor’s Pulp had this to say about the album: “Positivity and emotional openness course through Wilkins' words\, which he sings earnestly and passionately without overselling\, the sentiments flowing easily and naturally from his heart.”\n \nKi5 is active on Patreon and all social media at “ki5loops\,” and more info can be found at ki5loops.com\n \nLorian Janine Bio | Lorian Janine is a creative singer-songwriter from Detroit Michigan. She began playing the violin at age eight and continued to grow in her musical gift to play the guitar and drums. Although she sang in her church choir from age 11\, Lorian didn’t find her own passion for singing and begin to explore her voice until 18. Lorian has put out her first single project\, “Middle of the Sea\,” with the Amplify Fellowship.

SUMMARY:Exhibition:The Dance for Mother Earth Powwow
DESCRIPTION:This exhibit features various aspects of the Native North American powwow. More specifically\, it features the history and culture behind Ann Arbor’s \"Dance for Mother Earth Powwow\,\" which is approaching its much-anticipated 50th celebration.\n\nThe Dance for Mother Earth Powwow is a multi-decade\, intertribal celebration of Indigenous cultures. It grew from its early beginnings as a small gathering in a field just outside of Ann Arbor into one of the largest student-led powwows in North America. The event attracts crowds of thousands — dancers\, singers\, artists\, tribal members from across the country\, and non-Indigenous members of the community.\n\nStop by to learn more about The Dance for Mother Earth Powwow\, modern Indigenous culture\, and resources to connect to today on campus.\n\nThis exhibition was curated by Michigan Library Scholar interns\, Allison Jiang and Andrea Medina. The Michigan Library Scholars internship program provides undergraduate students with the opportunity to research and develop a capstone project under the guidance of experienced library professionals at one of the largest academic research libraries in the world.
