SUMMARY:Film Screening:Being \"Americanish\"
DESCRIPTION:Join LSA Student Government and other sponsors in a free film screening\, Americanish (2021)\, directed and co-written by Iman Zawahry\, on Friday\, March 17th\, from 6:00-8:30 in the Hussey Room in the Michigan League. Viewers are invited into the home and lives of three marriage-aged women as they navigate the often turbulent waters of romance\, culture\, career\, and family. Americanish delves into the complexity of trying to both honor and break from cultural traditions while balancing personal values and career goals in a society that does not always accommodate both. The film highlights different layers of womanhood intersecting with cultural and societal expectations. Following the film's screening\, a panel of the director Iman Zawahry and lead actress and co-writer Aizzah Fatima will take place and have a Q&A portion. Snacks and refreshments will be provided! This event is a MESA AA&PI Heritage Month event.

SUMMARY:Performance:Prometheus. Beginnings
DESCRIPTION:Prometheus. Beginnings is a devised dance theatre work\, conceived by Tzveta Kassabova with the cast\, that takes inspiration and ideas from two plays written by the Berlin-based playwright Kevin Rittberger. The piece creates the environment in which some of the pressing questions of our time float in\, come to focus\, and interact with each other. The piece is an exploration of an entanglement of movement\, spoken word\, improvisational music score by Steve Hilmy and the evocative set of the production. Prometheus. Beginnings was originally created in the context of the conference “Diffractive World-Making – Theatre and Science Beyond the Capitalocene” and an initial version was premiered at the University of Indiana.\n \n‘Through metamorphosis I alter my form\nWhich has given rise to nothing but greed\nMay my limbs be covered in soft bark\nHairs become leaves\nArms become branches\nAll that remains is radiance. ‘ —Kevin Rittberger

SUMMARY:Performance:Sierra Hull
DESCRIPTION:Sierra Hull’s positively stellar career started early. That is\, if you consider a Grand Ole Opry debut at age ten\, called back to the famed stage a year later to perform with her hero and mentor Alison Krauss\, to be early. She played Carnegie Hall at 12\; at 13 signed with Rounder Records and issued her debut\, “Secrets\,” and garnered the first of many nominations for Mandolin Player of the Year. She played the Kennedy Center at 16 and the next year became the first bluegrass musician to receive a Presidential Scholarship at the Berklee College of Music. As a 20-year-old\, Hull played the White House. Sierra found inspiration in Krauss\, Ricky Skaggs\, and Sam Bush. And\, just as importantly\, she affirmed her own sense of identity as she continued to break new ground. “There’s a voice in the back of my head telling me to keep working\, to keep moving forward\,” Sierra says. “You have to keep progressing and introducing new things.”
