SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:Commutative Algebra Seminar: On Kawamata-Viehweg Vanishing for Surfaces of del Pezzo Type over Imperfect Fields
DESCRIPTION:Vanishing theorems are foundational tools in the Log Minimal Model Program\, with the Kawamata-Viehweg Vanishing Theorem being one of the most important. However\, these fail in positive characteristics. Fano varieties and their log generalizations are expected to behave better in this setting. In this talk\, we prove the Kawamata--Viehweg vanishing theorem for surfaces of del Pezzo type over imperfect fields of characteristic p>5 and discuss consequences to threefold singularities.

SUMMARY:Exhibition:Sky Tonight
DESCRIPTION:A live presentation on what to find in the sky tonight and for the coming few weeks. This presentation includes how to find the cardinal directions with the North Star\, current and upcoming constellations\, visible planets\, a few deep sky objects depending on the season\, and other interesting astronomical visualizations. If you want to be able to look up from your own backyard and know what to look for\, this is the show for you.
