SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:BME Summer Workshops @ Michigan
DESCRIPTION:The goal of the BME Summer Workshops @ Michigan series is to establish the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor as a place to gather\, learn\, and network – each summer – on important research topics in biomedical engineering. These workshops will provide a collaborative forum to present current research progress and discuss future research opportunities at the interface of engineering and medicine.\n\nThis interdisciplinary workshop will provide strategies for supporting positive well-being in academia. The event will include professional development sessions\, roundtable discussions\, networking\, and social activities. It will address topics of burnout\, overwork\, and stress and offer strategies to support well-being and thriving in academia. Parallel sessions and discussions will focus on cultivating thriving as a leader\, cultivating well-being for graduate advisees\, and supporting undergraduate student well-being.\n\nThis event is scheduled for Tuesday\, August 13\, from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.\, in the Lurie Engineering Center Johnson Rooms\, 1221 Beal Avenue\, Ann Arbor\, 48109\, and features the following confirmed speakers:\n\nShayn Pierce-Cottler\, Ph.D.\, BME Department Chair\, University of Virginia \n\nLisa Pruitt\, Ph.D.\, Lawrence Talbot Professor of Engineering\, and Professor of Mechanical and Bioengineering\, UC Berkeley\n\nMore details to come as agenda is finalized. \n\nPlease complete and return the form by July 8\, 2024\, to reserve your spot. SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:MIDAS - ICPSR Social Data Science Summer Academy
DESCRIPTION:The MIDAS-ICPSR Social Data Science Summer Academy is a week-long hybrid program hosted collaboratively by the Michigan Institute for Data Science (MIDAS) and the Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR). Designed for both ICPSR members and University of Michigan researchers\, this intensive academy will provide a thorough and practical overview of essential data science techniques and how they can be applied to advance social science research.\n\nLed by globally leading experts in data science and social science\, sessions will be offered simultaneously virtually by Zoom and in-person at the University of Michigan campus. Through lectures\, hands-on workshops\, example applications\, and group discussions\, participants will develop core competencies in areas such as machine learning\, statistical modeling\, data visualization\, textual analysis\, and more.\n\nAdditionally\, instructors will highlight cutting-edge methods like deep learning and neural networks tailored to social science research questions and data. Specific applications covered will align with research interests of participants\, exploring relevant case studies and projects across the social sciences and beyond\, in domains like political science\, sociology\, public health and epidemiology\, communications\, economics\, and more.\n\nFor more information\, please visit the event page at : https://midas.umich.edu/workshops/social-data-sci-academy-24/
