SUMMARY:Other:Graduate Programs in International Studies
DESCRIPTION:This fall Columbia University School of International and Public Affairs\, Georgetown University Walsh School of Foreign Service\, Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies\, and Tufts University Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy will be visiting the Opportunity Hub to talk to LSA prospective students who may be interested in pursuing their graduate studies in international affairs. The presentation will include general topics such as academic offerings\, admissions requirements\, financial support\, and preparation for career opportunities in the international affairs field. Come learn more about our programs and schools and have all your questions answered! \n\nRSVP today to reserve your spot for this upcoming event. Once your RSVP is complete\, you’ll receive a confirmation email with the event details. \n\nThe Opportunity Hub aims to deliver inclusive and accessible experiences and welcomes all LSA students to participate. This event is on the first floor of a wheelchair accessible building which includes wheelchair-accessible restrooms on the first floor\, a gender-inclusive and accessible restroom on the first floor as well\, and places to sit or stand during the event. To request other accommodations please contact LSA Hub Events at lsa.hubevents@umich.edu or 734-763-4674 so we can make arrangements.

SUMMARY:Lecture / Discussion:HET Seminar | The Microstructure of the Schwarzschild Black Hole
DESCRIPTION:Understanding the microscopic structure of black holes has been a central goal in string theory. While significant progress has been made for supersymmetric solutions\, a key question remains: what is the microstructure of the Schwarzschild black hole\, the simplest solution in General Relativity? In this talk\, we will introduce a new approach to account for the entropy of the Schwarzschild black hole through branes and antibranes in string theory. We will explore recent progress in constructing Schwarzschild microstates in supergravity\, which appear as smooth\, horizonless geometries that deviate from the Schwarzschild black hole in the near-horizon region.
