SUMMARY:Performance:Carillon Music Honoring Civil Rights Advocates Then and Now
DESCRIPTION:Faculty and alumni performers Tiffany Ng (University Carillonist)\, Associate Professor Jessi Grieser\, and Dr. Jenna HyoJin Moon perform musical selections in honor of civil rights activists\, including \"In-Visibility\" by Emmy-award-winning composer Jasmine Barnes\, whose piece celebrates the invisible\, behind-the-scenes work of those who support their communities\, and songs drawn from the life of John Lewis as illustrated in his autobiographical trilogy *March*.\n\nThe bell chamber may be accessed via a combination of elevator and stairs. Take the elevator to the highest floor possible (floor 8)\, and then climb two flights of stairs (39 steps) to the bell chamber (floor 10). Protective earmuffs are available. Be prepared to walk on ice and snow in the bell chamber during winter. Built in 1936\, the Charles Baird Carillon is not ADA accessible. Visitors with mobility concerns are invited to visit the simultaneous MLK Day noontime recital at the Lurie Carillon and see the bells on the second floor.\n\nThis concert is held as part of the annual U-M Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King\, Jr. Symposium.

SUMMARY:Exhibition:Igniting Growth
DESCRIPTION:January 8-20\, 2025\nReception: Thursday\, January 9\, 4:30-6:00 pm\nDuderstadt Center Gallery\n\nGrowth can come from outside inspiration\, life experiences\, pain\, illness\, etc. This interactive exhibit is not just a display of art and music but an experiment focusing on the creative process and how inspiration may affect and alter that process. As artists\, we find the constant need to evolve and grow. We can become complacent in our ideas. This is when inspiration from a different book\, or music or other source can ignite a new direction/phase in our life. \n\nThis is an interactive exhibit\, bring your earbuds and smartphone to enjoy the full experience. For more information\, please contact Rich Moizio at rmoizio@comcast.net or Armani PlantSeeds at plantseeds313@gmail.com
