SUMMARY:Class / Instruction:Introduction to Focus Group Interviewing Research Methods - Summer Institute in Survey Research Techniques
DESCRIPTION:Introduction to Focus Group Interviewing Research Methods\nRichard Krueger\n\nJune 11-12\, 2024\nT-W (8:30am-12:00pm)\n\nClasses are open for registration. You do not have to be affiliated with the University in order to attend. \n\nThe mission of the Summer Institute in Survey Research Techniques (SISRT) is to provide rigorous and high quality graduate training in all phases of survey research. The program teaches state-of-the art practice and theory in the design\, implementation\, and analysis of surveys. \n \nSpace is limited so please register early! Since our courses are not for academic credit\, fees are based on the number of assigned “course hours” to each class.\n\nPlease view the 2024 course schedule for our extensive class offerings. Classes are offered remotely at their scheduled times.\n\nThe course will be presented in two sections.\n\nSection 1 (June 11) will be an overview of focus group interviewing research. In this session we will cover the basics of in-person focus group interviewing. Topics would include planning\, developing questions\, recruiting\, moderating and analyzing the focus group study. Special attention is placed on conducting focus group research in the academic\, public and non-profit environments.\n\nSection 2 (June 12) will build on Session 1 and introduce the strategies for conducting on-line focus group research. The course will introduce protocol for planning\, conducting and analyzing results from on-line groups using Zoom.\n\nThe course will cover these skills:\n\n•	Conducting in-person and virtual focus groups\n•	How to plan and design a focus group study\n•	Identifying information-rich participants and getting them to show up\n•	Beginning the focus group – the crucial first few minutes and moderating techniques\n•	Developing questions—Characteristics of good focus group questions\n•	Analyzing—Options for analysis\n\nWhy Take This Course?\n\nFocus groups are used to understand issues\, pilot test ideas\, and evaluate programs. They also provide great insight when used in combination with surveys. Focus groups have been used to help design surveys\, to pilot test surveys\, and to understand survey findings. Take this course if you want to learn more about how focus groups might add to your research toolbox.

SUMMARY:Exhibition:Bill Jackson Photography Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:This exhibition is entitled HOMECOMING because it has been almost 6 years since Bill was scheduled to have an exhibition at NCRC Gallery. However\, his untimely passing in 2018 prevented the exhibition. In honor of the artist\, his wife Meighen Jackson has assembled this body of work for this exhibition.\n\nA 1960’s graduate of Monteith College at Wayne State\, Bill saw himself not as a storyteller nor a documentarian\, but as a photographer seeking images with the power and creativity of late 20th century painting and music making.\n\nBill Jackson’s work is represented nationally by Walter Wickiser Gallery in Manhattan and regionally by M Contemporary in Ferndale\, MI. It is included in many permanent collections including Wayne State University in Detroit.
