SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:BSI Information Sessions- Current U of M Students
DESCRIPTION:We encourage every student interested in or contemplating an undergraduate degree at the School of Information to attend an information session. You will receive an engaging and comprehensive overview of the program\, as well as guidance for the application process. Sessions are hosted on different days and times to accommodate as many students as possible\, and you only need to attend one session before you apply. These information sessions are for students who area currently University of Michigan students.

SUMMARY:Livestream / Virtual:ISRMT Seminar: Dispersive decay for the Modified Benjamin-Ono equation with small data
DESCRIPTION:Abstract: We study the modified Benjamin-Ono equation for small\, localized initial data where no solitons arise. Unlike the standard Benjamin-Ono equation\, the modified version is not known to be completely integrable\, so we cannot rely on integrable systems tools. First\, to manage the nonlocal Hilbert transform in the linear part of the equation\, we split it using positive and negative frequency projections. We then combine wave packet testing of Ifrim and Tataru\, the Klainerman–Sobolev vector field method\, a normal form transformation\, and a bootstrap argument\, to establish a global-in-time dispersive decay estimate.\n\n*To request access to the Zoom room\, please contact Nathan Hayford at nhayford [ at ] umich.edu.*
