SUMMARY:Conference / Symposium:30th Anniversary of the Joint Ph.D. Program in Psychology and Women's & Gender Studies
DESCRIPTION:The University of Michigan is proud to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the founding of the joint Ph.D. program in Psychology and Women’s and Gender Studies. Starting in 1995\, the joint doctoral program began training students and established itself as the model for interdisciplinary scholarship. The founding of the Psychology/WGS joint program signaled – and continues to lead – in the growth of the field of feminist psychology.\n\nGender and the broader study of inequality has become a crucial site of education and knowledge production. As the national discourse concerning gender\, racism\, and inequality has grown contentious and even dangerous in recent years\, it is more important than ever to note this 30th anniversary milestone of a program that is dedicated to training future generations of feminist psychologists.\n\nThe 30th anniversary celebration will include: a discussion of the program’s founding and development with Dr. Abby Stewart\, a keynote by Dr. Michelle Fine on the crucial role that feminist psychology plays in contemporary scholarship and activism\, and a panel of alumni from the program will speak about their careers and the unique training they received in the UM joint program.

SUMMARY:Exhibition:Beyond Survival
DESCRIPTION:Join us for Beyond Survival\, an exhibition of works by incarcerated artists in Michigan presented by PCAP co-founder Janie Paul and the Flint Institute of the Arts. The exhibit opens May 30th and runs through September 14th. \n\nThe pieces span nearly 30 years\, many of them having been featured in our Annual Exhibition.\n\n\"Through drawings\, paintings\, and sculptures made with simple materials\, artists expose the harsh realities of incarceration while imagining life beyond prison. These works reveal a longing for home and family\, joy and beauty\, connections to nature\, flights of the imagination\, and journeys toward freedom—acts of creation made despite and in direct response to carceral conditions.\"
