SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:James T. Neubacher Award Ceremony - 2026
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the award\npresentation for the 2026 James T. Neubacher Award. This event will be both in\nperson and over zoom\, feel free to register for both events so that you can\nreceive the zoom information. The award is presented\nto a faculty member\, staff member\, student\, or alum of the University for\nsignificant achievements in:• Empowering people\nwith disabilities.• Advocating for or\nadvancing disability rights or disability justice• Increasing the\naccessibility of programs and services to promote disability inclusion. The award is sponsored\nby the U-M Council for Disability Concerns\, Equity\, Civil Rights\, and Title IX\nOffice\, University Human Resources\, Michigan Medicine\, and the Office of the\nPresident.Student\nAccessibility and Accommodation Services will recognize U-M Adaptive Sports\n& Fitness (ASF) for its accomplishments over the past year\, including\nwinning the ITA National Championship\, two ASF coaches receiving national Coach\nof the Year honors\, and ASF’s work with Ann Arbor Public Schools through the\nAdaptive Sports & Inclusive Recreation Initiative (ASIRI)\, sponsored by the\nMichigan Health Endowment Fund. SAAS\nwill also recognize the 2025 recipient of the Adam S. Miller Staff and Faculty\nAward.CART and ASL will be\nprovided for this event. If you require any additional accommodations\, please\nlet us know.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA reception will\nfollow the award ceremony for those who are able to attend in person.

SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:Algebraic Geometry Seminar: From stability conditions to generalized Bogomolov-Gieseker inequalities
DESCRIPTION:The classical Bogomolov-Gieseker inequality provides a bound on the second Chern character of semistable sheaves\, which is an essential ingredient in the construction of stability conditions on surfaces. Generalizing this\, Bayer-Macrì-Toda proposed to use a conjectural ch_3 inequality for tilt stable objects to construct stability conditions on threefolds. This inequality found many applications ranging from counting invariants to linear series\, but people were only able to prove it in special cases.\n\nThe recent breakthrough of Chunyi Li provides a different route to construct stability conditions over any projective variety. In my talk\, I will recall this beautiful idea\, and explain that\, via an enhancement of Li’s construction together with some reverse-engineering\, we can produce a series of inequalities on any Chern characters for suitable objects on any variety\, with Bogomolov-Gieseker and Bayer-Macrì-Toda as the first two instances. This is based on joint work in progress with Chunyi Li\, Zhiyu Liu and Benjamin Sung.\n\nIf time permits\, I will also discuss a strengthen of this result for ch_3 inequality using Frobenius method\, based on joint work with Chunyi Li\, Zhiyu Liu and Alex Perry. Parts of these projects are AI-assisted\, which will be explained in the talk.
