SUMMARY:Exhibition:A Gathering
DESCRIPTION:Welcome. Make Yourself At Home.\n \nA Gathering brings together the newest works of art to enter UMMA’s collection — many on display here for the first time. \n \nAs a free\, public museum\, UMMA staff takes care of art for the benefit of the community and society at large. The works on view in this exhibition\, all brought into the Museum between 2019 and the present\, shows how institutions like UMMA are becoming more permeable to societal challenges\, and more nimble in responding to them in service to all in their communities. In this exhibition you will find works that reflect on how global migrations\, race\, gender\, and ecological change shape the way we engage with the world and inform our visions for the future.\n \nThis collection of artistic engagements with issues give us tools to envision who we want to be as individuals\, as a museum\, and as a society\, connected to one another across space and experience.\n \nSo gather here to take in these latest works of art brought here for you. Gather here to be engulfed in their forms and meanings\, to discuss their takes\, to learn\, to disagree. Gather to relax\, make a friend\, drink a coffee\, finish the daily Wordle. Gather to feel full\, to be moved and inspired by all the possible imaginations of what is yet to come.\n \nCurated by Félix Zamora Gómez Irving Stenn\, Jr. Fellow in Public Humanities & Museum Pedagogy\n\nLead support for this exhibition is provided by Lizzie and Jonathan Tisch\, the Richard and Rosann Noel Endowment\, and the University of Michigan Office of the Provost.\n

SUMMARY:Exhibition:Bittersweet Bliss
DESCRIPTION:On view December 4–15\, 2024 at Stamps Gallery.\n\nWe proudly present an exhibition that swirls through nine personal narratives of struggle\, self-knowledge\, and fantasy respectively. The imagined paired with the gut led to a collection of works that overload the senses\, and indulge in a decadence of material and ornamentation. These works conjure memories of the hospital stay\, the museum visit\, the family gathering\, and inexplicable bouts of nostalgia from a lineage that precedes us. We long\, we dream\, we ail\, we labor\, we try and fail to control\, we are overwhelmed\, and yet\, we find bliss and comfort in the middle of it all. We know what we feel and we remember it. As our BA Seniors bid farewell to Stamps\, we share this gift of our work\, tied lovingly with a bow.\n\nThe Bachelor of Arts (BA) Senior Studio (ARTDES 401) is offered for Stamps BA students in their final year of study. The BA Senior Studio Exhibition offers these students the opportunity to build on the particular characteristics of the BA degree\, and focus on creating and exhibiting a culminating\, self-directed project. Students work independently or collaboratively to define a project plan with goals\, benchmarks\, and a timeline. \n\nThe BA Senior Studio Exhibition is a new tradition for Stamps\, with the inaugural show taking place in Fall 2024. These students and instructors have worked collaboratively to produce a fully self-directed show from start to finish\, emphasizing the skills and practices associated with producing professional exhibitions\, in addition to their studio work. \n\nFaculty:\nNick Tobier\, Professor\nMichelle Cieloszczyk\, GSI\n\nBA Student Artists and Designers:\nMaria D'Ambrosio\nDanielle de Coster\nEsha Kumar\nPeyton Messner\nMaya Moufawad\nRia Garcia Rivera\nBenjamin Nicolas Seguin \nScott Wallace Smith\nSiyu Zhong
