If still having issues\, click this link. \nFirst-Year Relationship and Sexuality Talk (FYRST) is a required\, in-person\, and peer-facilitated workshop that came directly from feedback and listening sessions with current University of Michigan students. Our goal is to create an accessible\, supportive space for student-driven conversations where all identities and experiences are welcomed and in which students can build skills and tools around identifying goals and values and then communicate effectively about those. Workshops will be offered at multiple locations and times throughout the fall semester\, so please sign up for the workshop that works for you!! First-Year Relationship Sexuality Talk (FYRST) FAQ:\n“How many workshops do I have to sign up for?”\nYou only need to sign up for 1 workshop. Attending 1 workshop will fulfill the requirement for the training. \n“I see that there is more than one session\, does it matter which one I sign up for?”\nIt generally does not matter which workshop you sign up for. There will be a few that are designated for specific groups such as transfer students or for students looking for accommodations. If you do not fit these groups please try to save these workshops for those that do and you are free to choose among any of the other workshops. \n“Is this workshop required?”\nThis workshop is required for all transfer and first-year students at the University of Michigan.\n“I’ve experienced harm around relationships or sexual experiences in the past and I am worried that attending this workshop may be harmful for me.” \nOur team is aware that students who are coming into the university that have experienced harm in the past. Our workshop is specifically designed to respect and validate the experiences of survivors and has been carefully constructed to avoid any specific descriptions of violence and focus instead on themes of empowerment\, communication\, and boundary setting. However\, if you still have concerns about programming and would like to request alternative programming\, please feel free to reach out at SAPAC-FYRST@umich.edu.\n“What if I struggle to learn in a presentation setting? I’m an active learner.”\nOur workshop is built to meet a variety of learning styles\, including time for self-reflection\, small group sharing\, and resources to take with you to work through on your own time! DESCRIPTION:The Vietnam War has largely been characterized by the sheer havoc that it released on its citizens\, the environment\, and those unfortunate soldiers who were drafted there. Apocalypse Now is an infamously brutal journey through the varied horrors of napalm and the jungle. Set in 1969 during the height of the conflict\, Francis Ford Coppola constructs a fittingly disoriented and surreal landscape through which Captain Benjamin Willard must navigate. Given orders by his superiors to assassinate a defected colonel\, Willard has little to sustain him apart from a waning sense of patriotism. Join him on his journey\, and you will both soon discover that this mission is as hopeless as the war itself.

The first half of the concert will feature student performances of Korean song\, interwoven with historical and cultural narration by SMTD’s Dr. Matthew Thompson\, and will end with a performance by SMTD’s alum Jack Morin (’25)\, whose Korean song performances have garnered millions of views online. The second half of the concert will showcase the world-renowned Korean soprano Sumi Jo\, joined by Thompson at the piano. \n\nThe concert marks the first time that Korean song performance has been taught at U-M and is generously supported by the SeAH corporation and numerous campus entities: the Arts Initiative\, the Jessye Norman Fund\, the School of Music\, Theatre & Dance\, the Nam Center for Korean Studies\, and the Office of the President. DESCRIPTION:My Brightest Diamond is the moniker of Shara Nova\, a classically trained vocalist and self- taught multi-instrumentalist whose music is as dazzling as it is shape-shifting. Since assembling the project in 2006\, Nova has consistently resisted genre conventions\, blending elements of rock\, art pop\, and chamber music into a sound unmistakably her own.\n\nRaised in a family of traveling evangelists\, Nova spent her childhood crisscrossing the country\, her father leading church choirs and her mother playing organ. When the family settled outside Detroit in the early ’90s\, she absorbed the sounds of hip-hop and soul filling the airwaves\, alongside the likes of Samuel Barber and Bach in her high school chamber choir. After studying classical voice at the University of North Texas\, Nova relocated to New York City\, where she formed My Brightest Diamond\, producing six bold and genre-defying albums\, each inhabiting a distinct musical landscape while remaining anchored by Nova’s singular voice. My Brightest Diamond closes the Freighthouse residency with this performance.\n\nAlcohol will be available for purchase for ages 21+ with ID.
