SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:SRC Seminar Series Presents: From Evidence to Action: Precision Implementation of Classroom Physical Activity Breaks
DESCRIPTION:Abstract: \nWe know that classroom physical activity breaks can help children move more\, interrupt prolonged sitting\, and support learning—but knowing what works is only the beginning. The harder question is: How do we help schools consistently put evidence into practice? This talk explores the journey from evidence-based intervention to sustainable classroom practice\, drawing on the implementation of InPACT (Interrupting Prolonged Sitting with Activity) across Michigan schools. Dr. Hasson will examine why promising physical activity interventions often fall short during implementation and how implementation science can help close the gap between adoption and everyday use. She will highlight three complementary strategies—Replicating Effective Programs\, implementation teams\, and implementation facilitation—and share lessons from their application in diverse school settings. The talk will introduce a precision implementation approach: rather than assuming every school needs the same support\, implementation strategies can be stepped up according to the barriers\, resources\, and readiness of each school. Attendees will leave with practical insights into how to move beyond simply asking\, \"Does it work?\" to asking\, “What support does this setting need to make it work—and sustain it?”\n\nBio: \nDr. Rebecca Hasson is the Victor L. Katch Collegiate Professor of Kinesiology and an associate professor of Movement Science at the University of Michigan. She is a nationally recognized expert in children's health\, physical activity\, and health equity. She created InPACT and InPACT at Home to help children be more active through fun\, short activity breaks that fit easily into the school day and family routines. For more than 15 years\, Dr. Hasson has worked with schools\, healthcare providers\, and families to develop practical\, evidence-based programs that improve children's physical\, mental\, and emotional well-being. Her research is supported by the National Institutes of Health and the Michigan Health Endowment Fund\, with a focus on making healthy lifestyles more accessible for all children. Through InPACT\, her goal is to give every child the opportunity to enjoy the lifelong benefits of regular physical activity—at school\, at home\, and beyond.

Lurie Carillon\, an instrument of 60 bells with the lowest bell (bourdon) weighing 6 tons.\n\nThirty-minute recitals are performed on the Lurie Carillon every weekday that classes are in session. During these recitals\, visitors may take the elevator to level 2 to view the largest bells\, or to level 3 to see the carillonist performing. (Visitors subject to acrophobia are recommended to visit level 2 only.) An optional spiral stairway between levels 2 and 3 allows for up-close views of some of the largest bells.

DESCRIPTION:The Arts Initiative is university-wide\, and we believe the arts are for everyone. One of our goals is to make creative experiences accessible across all three University of Michigan campuses and beyond by connecting students\, faculty\, staff\, and community members through meaningful artistic opportunities.Throughout the year\, we support hundreds of free or low-cost events\, workshops\, performances\, exhibitions\, artist talks\, creative wellness programs\, and public art experiences. Whether someone has been making art their entire life or is trying something creative for the very first time\, there's a place for them here.We believe that creativity helps us build community\, explore new ideas\, reduce stress\, and connect with one another in meaningful ways. There's no expectation to be an artist when attending our workshops —just come as you are\, stay curious\, and enjoy the process.
