SUMMARY:Exhibition:The Tree of Eternity
DESCRIPTION:The Tree of Eternity is an immersive\, interactive installation that explores remembrance\, loss\, and the enduring presence of those we have loved. \n\nThe installation centers on a projected tree surrounded by interactive terminal pods that control its structure.\n\nVisitors approach interactive pods positioned throughout the gallery space\, where they are invited to recall memories of people or experiences throughout their lives. Depending on the kiosk they interact with\, different effects will be present on the projected tree.\n\nAs more visitors’ memories are inputted\, the tree’s visuals adapt and change form\, demonstrating that our memories persist with us. Projection mapping creates ethereal visuals accompanied by atmospheric audio. Even when visitors aren't actively engaging with the kiosks\, the system generates ambient transmissions\, suggesting that the tree—and the memories it embodies—continues to live and grow.\n\nThe installation creates a dialogue between life and death\, presence and absence\, individual memory and collective remembrance\, inviting participants to contribute to a living memorial that persists beyond any single moment of grief or reflection.

SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:Articulating and Leveraging Your Transferable Skills (for Graduate Students)
DESCRIPTION:This workshop will explore the many transferable skills you have gained during graduate school and how to translate these skills to the non-academic job market. We’ll review transferable skills employers value (e.g.\, collaboration\, critical thinking\, project management) and discuss the types of graduate school experiences where you may have honed these skills. You will have time to reflect on your unique experiences and articulate the transferable skills gained from them. To get the most out of the session\, please review this worksheet and come prepared with questions and/or experiences to share. This event is intended to be interactive and therefore a recording will not be available. Brought to you by the University Career Center\, in partnership with Rackham Graduate School.\n

SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:Learning that Transforms: Michigan Stories
DESCRIPTION:We all have a story about learning: an “aha!” moment\, an unexpected detour\, a mistake\, or an experience that changed our perspective about ourselves or the world around us.\n\nYour story might come from a classroom\, research lab\, workplace\, creative project\, community\, or everyday life. Maybe you tried something new\, made an unexpected discovery\, worked through a setback\, or learned from something that didn’t go as planned.\n\nWherever and however your learning happened\, we’d love to hear about it.\n\nIn this workshop\, you'll develop and shape your story with Satori Shakoor\, founder of Detroit’s Secret Society of Twisted Storytellers and a 2017 Kresge Literary Arts Fellow.\n\nWith Satori’s guidance\, you’ll discover what makes your story yours and bring it to life. Come curious and open. No storytelling experience—or polished story—is needed. \n\nAfter the workshop\, you’ll have the option to record your story on video or share it at a live storytelling event in spring 2027. \n\nInterested? Fill out a short form to tell us about yourself: https://forms.gle/GviufLcuXTm4rPcc9 \n\nSpace is limited to 10 people per workshop. The project team will begin reviewing submissions after Oct. 29 and will offer places on a rolling basis until all sessions are full. Early submissions are encouraged for the best chance of receiving a preferred date.\n\nThis workshop is part of Learning That Transforms: Michigan Stories\, a storytelling and video project inviting U-M students\, faculty\, and staff to share their personal learning stories. \n\nThe project is sponsored by the Eileen Lappin Weiser Center for the Learning Sciences\, and is supported by the University of Michigan's Life-Changing Education Initiative.\n\nQuestions? Contact Program Manager Heidi Bennett at heidiab@umich.edu.

SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:IES Energy Seminar Series - AI-Based Analytics and Energy Modeling Frameworks for Characterizing Urban Energy Systems
DESCRIPTION:Abstract: \nUrban energy systems are growing in complexity as they respond to the challenges of planning location-specific energy transitions. However\, current modeling approaches often fail to capture the physical\, behavioral\, and systemic diversity required for effective localized planning and decision-making.\n\nIn this talk\, I will present integrated frameworks that combine bottom-up physics-based modeling with AI-driven analytics for characterizing urban energy systems. I will first show how the URBANopt platform has developed capabilities that enable coordinated analysis and co-design across buildings\, DERs\, and the grid. I will then discuss an AI-driven capabilities that automates input generation and supports dynamic scenario exploration.\n\nThese capabilities transform urban energy system planning by reducing the labor required for model generation\, scaling scenario exploration\, and improving accuracy for localized analysis. Together\, they form a scalable and adaptable framework that provides stakeholders with actionable insights for planning reliable and efficient energy transitions.\n\nBiography:\nDr. Rawad El Kontar is a Senior Research Engineer at the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Laboratory of the Rockies (NLR). He is the lead developer of URBANopt\, DOE’s open-source urban energy modeling platform\, and the creator of the Urban Systems Generator\, an AI-driven framework that automates building-level data completion and scenario generation for city-scale energy modeling. With a multidisciplinary background spanning architecture\, building science\, and data science\, Rawad develops analytics and software platforms that integrate machine learning\, AI\, and energy simulation to accelerate the co-design and optimization of buildings\, distributed energy resources (DERs)\, and grid systems. His work supports stakeholders in advancing reliable and efficient energy.\n\n\nFor the most up to date information on the location\, please check the related link the week of this event
