Uhlmann\, Department of Human Genetics\n___\nStephanie Malia Fullerton\, DPhil\, is Professor of Bioethics and Humanities at the University of Washington School of Medicine. She is also Adjunct Professor in the UW Departments of Epidemiology\, Genome Sciences\, and Medicine (Medical Genetics)\, as well as an affiliate investigator with the Public Health Sciences division of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. She received a PhD in Human Population Genetics from the University of Oxford and later re-trained in Ethical\, Legal\, and Social Implications (ELSI) research with a fellowship from the NIH National Human Genome Research Institute.\n\nDr. Fullerton’s work focuses on the ethical and social implications of genomic research and its equitable and safe translation for clinical and public health benefit. She serves as the ELSI lead for the Clinical Sequencing Evidence-Generating Research (CSER2) Consortium coordinating center\, co-chairs the TOPMed Consortium ELSI Committee\, and chairs the Bioethics Advisory Board of the Kaiser Permanente national Research Bank. She contributes to a range of empirical projects focused on clinical genomics translation and precision medicine approaches to the treatment and prevention of cancer and kidney disease in diverse patient populations.

DESCRIPTION:Changes over the course of the nineteenth century in how Americans voted\, from voice vote to public ballot box to private voting booth\, also saw changes in the material culture that surrounded voting. Ballots and ballot boxes\, campaign pins and ribbons\, blank lists and pre-printed party tickets\, lanterns and banners–the creative forces of the American print industry filled the country’s cities and small towns with the ephemera of electioneering.\n\nAs you look at the items in this exhibit\, think about what they tell us about how Americans in the past felt about voting\, and about how voting felt. How did Election Days feel when they were full of parades and music and public drinking? What was it like to vote when everyone around you knew who you voted for? And\, most of all\, who counted as a voter\, and who did the counting?\n\nOn view September 11-December 22\, weekdays from 12-4 pm.

Lurie Carillon\, an instrument of 60 bells with the lowest bell (bourdon) weighing 6 tons.\n\nThirty-minute recitals are performed on the Lurie Carillon every weekday that classes are in session. During these recitals\, visitors may take the elevator to level 2 to view the largest bells\, or to level 3 to see the carillonist performing. (Visitors subject to acrophobia are recommended to visit level 2 only.) An optional spiral stairway between levels 2 and 3 allows for up-close views of some of the largest bells.

DESCRIPTION:RCGD Fall 2026 Seminar Series: Global Perspectives on Culture & Health\, meets Mondays 3:30 to 5 at ISR Thompson 6050.\n\nGlobal Perspectives on Culture and Health explores fundamental aspects of human life. Culture facilitates human interaction by providing meaning to lived experience. Accounting for culture in both theories and methods potentially advances the study of health by connecting the macro and micro levels of human experience. Yet\, culture should be understood as dynamic and complex. It fundamentally shapes individuals and simultaneously is shaped by individuals. The importance of systematically attending to culture includes topics of values\, language\, immigration\, and society.\n\nTheories and methods that incorporate culture hold great potential for advancing the understanding of health outcomes and health trajectories in various global contexts.\n\nThe speakers for this series will focus on various aspects of culture and diverse groups living in the U.S. and across the globe to address the ways in which attending to culture helps clarify and overcome challenges to good health.\n\nThe Group Dynamics Seminar series is considered one of the longest running seminar series in the social sciences. It has been running uninterruptedly since it was founded by Kurt Lewin in the 1920’s in Berlin. The seminar series runs every semester on a theme chosen by faculty organizer/s who are affiliated with the Research Center for Group Dynamics at the Institute for Social Research. A very important feature of this seminar today is its interdisciplinary nature.
