SUMMARY:Lecture / Discussion:Brown Bag Seminar | Exotic energy injection in the early Universe
DESCRIPTION:The production of electromagnetically interacting particles in the early Universe is a generic prediction of many extensions of both the standard models of particle physics and cosmology. In this talk\, I will give an overview of recent progress in understanding how injected particles deposit their energy into regular matter\, and highlight some novel signatures of new physics that are well within current and near-future experimental reach.

SUMMARY:Presentation:Rational duality groups and the Cohomology of SL_n(Z)
DESCRIPTION:Certain classes of groups\, such as the special linear groups over integers\, satisfy a (co)homological duality property that allows one to study their rational cohomology groups. I'll discuss a criterion to test when a group satisfies this duality\, and see how in the case of SLnZ this comes down to the fact that the Tits building is homotopy equivalent to a wedge of spheres.
