SUMMARY:Lecture / Discussion:CMENAS 2024 Fall Colloquium Series. Lyric Documentation: A Discussion of Mare Nostrum
DESCRIPTION:Mattawa’s poetry in his volume *Mare Nostrum* “integrates information and poetic form to bear witness to the plight of migrants and confront the issue of indifference and forgetfulness.” Critics have observed that the poems in this volume “serve as a powerful tool to humanize the migrant experience\, raising awareness and mobilizing global consciousness.” Prof. Mattawa will discuss how integrated research and fieldwork can produce poems in a mode that he calls “Lyric Documentation.”\n \nKhaled Mattawa is the William Wilhartz Endowed Professor of English Language and Literature at the University of Michigan. His latest book of poems is *Fugitive Atlas* (Graywolf\, 2020). He is a MacArthur Fellow and the current editor of Michigan Quarterly Review.\n\nRegister at https://myumi.ch/Jw5gb
