DESCRIPTION:Zoom:\nhttps://umich.zoom.us/j/95573161835\nMeeting ID: 955 7316 1835\nPasscode: 054136\n\nUpon finishing my PhD in CME at Michigan\, my wife and I moved to The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)\, located in central sub-Saharan Africa\, where I’ve been teaching undergraduate math and physics since 2018. The DRC is a challenging place for physics education. The poor quality of primary and secondary education along with chronic poverty and insecurity means that students are often ill prepared for university physics. However\, there is still a need for qualified STEM practitioners to solve the many technical challenges of a growing society. The experience of teaching in the DRC has changed me forever. In this seminar\, I will share with you some of the challenges I faced and the rewards I received by seizing this unique opportunity.
