SUMMARY:Film Screening:CJS Film Presentation | *The Cats of Gokogu Shrine* Screening and Discussion
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for a free screening of *The Cats of Gokogu Shrine.* The filmmaker\, Kazuhiro Soda\, will attend this screening in person!\n \n *Gokogu* is a small Shinto shrine in Ushimado\, Japan that is home to dozens of street cats. Due to its feline residents\, it is known as Cat Shrine. *Gokogu* looks peaceful on the surface\, but it is also the epicenter of a sensitive issue that divides the local community. Filmmaker Kazuhiro Soda started rolling his camera to observe and depict the aging\, traditional community and its spiritual center *Gokogu.*\n \n Presented in Japanese with English subtitles. Read more about the film at https://www.imdb.com/title/tt30955770/\n \n Kazuhiro Soda will also have a free lecture two days after this screening\, explaining how he shot and edited this film. This lecture will be on Thursday\, February 27th\, at noon in Weiser 1010.
