SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:Rep Stability/Comm Alg Seminar: F-signature function along proper birational maps
DESCRIPTION:Abstract: F-signature plays a crucial role when measuring singularities of varieties in positive characteristics. For example\, if R is a local ring\, s(R) = 1 implies R is regular\, and 0 < s(R) < 1 implies R is strongly F-regular which is a char p analog of klt singularities. For a globally F-regular variety X\, the F-signature function of an ample invertible sheaf is defined in an analogous way to the F-signature of the section ring along the invertible sheaf over X. In this talk\, we will discuss how the F-signature of pairs compares along proper birational maps and the positivity of the F-signature function on big divisors. This is joint work with Suchitra Pande.

SUMMARY:Reception / Open House:Victor Perera Papers: From Chaos to Cataloged
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we showcase the recently processed papers of Victor Perera\, a Guatemalan-born Sephardic Jewish-American writer\, journalist\, and political activist. Learn about archival processing and the collection’s journey from a basement to library accessible via a finding aid. See highlights from Perera’s collection\, including original drafts\, materials from his time at the University of Michigan\, and his research on Guatemala conflicts\, whales\, the Loch Ness Monster\, his Sephardic Jewish genealogy\, and the Perera family curse.\n\nLight refreshments will be served.\n\nJoin us (on the 6th floor of Hatcher) for Third Thursdays at the Library\, a themed monthly open house where we share materials from our collections.\n\nWhile you’re here\, pick up a Third Thursday Passport and collect a stamp from each of the three Third Thursday Open Houses — the Clark Library\, International Studies\, and the Special Collections Research Center — to win a prize!
