SUMMARY:Lecture / Discussion:Professor Jim Burnstein\, Endowed Professorship in Entertainment\, Inaugural Lecture
DESCRIPTION:“THE KEY TO THIS JOB IS PERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS”\n — Cameron Crowe\, Jerry Maguire\n\nThe story of how Jim Burnstein\, a University of Michigan English major and University of Wisconsin Law School dropout became a Hollywood screenwriter without ever taking a screenwriting class. It’s not a story about networking\, it’s a story about all the people in your life who can teach you lessons to fulfill the dreams you never knew you had. These are the same lessons Burnstein used to build the University of Michigan’s nationally acclaimed Screenwriting Program which in turn taught him how to become a better screenwriter.\n\nIf you are unable to join us in person\, please click the link below to join the webinar:\n\nhttps://umich.zoom.us/j/98121553761\nOr One tap mobile :\n +13126266799\,\,98121553761# US (Chicago)\n +16468769923\,\,98121553761# US (New York)\nOr Telephone:\n Dial(for higher quality\, dial a number based on your current location):\n +1 312 626 6799 US (Chicago)\n +1 646 876 9923 US (New York)\n +1 646 931 3860 US\n +1 301 715 8592 US (Washington DC)\n +1 305 224 1968 US\n +1 309 205 3325 US\n +1 253 205 0468 US\n +1 253 215 8782 US (Tacoma)\n +1 346 248 7799 US (Houston)\n +1 360 209 5623 US\n +1 386 347 5053 US\n +1 507 473 4847 US\n +1 564 217 2000 US\n +1 669 444 9171 US\n +1 669 900 6833 US (San Jose)\n +1 689 278 1000 US\n +1 719 359 4580 US\n +1 204 272 7920 Canada\n +1 438 809 7799 Canada\n +1 587 328 1099 Canada\n +1 647 374 4685 Canada\n +1 647 558 0588 Canada\n +1 778 907 2071 Canada\n +1 780 666 0144 Canada\nWebinar ID: 981 2155 3761\n International numbers available: https://umich.zoom.us/u/abRT3rBjrs

SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:Student DGT: Poincaré's Last Geometric Theorem (Poincaré-Birkhoff Theorem)
DESCRIPTION:In this talk\, we aim to outline a proof of the Poincaré-Birkhoff fixed point theorem which states that any area preserving diffeomorphism of the annulus which preserves the two boundary components and twists them in opposite directions has at least two fixed points. We will also discuss its application to Hamiltonian systems and other fixed point theorems (for higher dimensions) in symplectic geomtery if time permits. (EH 2866)

SUMMARY:Reception / Open House:Third Thursdays at the Library: Spotlight on Conservation
DESCRIPTION:Chat with the folks from the library’s conservation department who will be showcasing some of their recent projects\, which include a variety of rare book treatments\, housing projects that keep materials protected in storage\, and figuring out how to care for oddities like a movie prop of a crying newborn baby.\n\nThe conservation department is responsible for the preservation of the library’s vast holdings of rare and special collection materials. The work they do includes preventive care activities\, such as making protective boxes and enclosures for storage and constructing supports for items during exhibitions. They also perform treatments (the conservation term used to describe the repair process) on hundreds of items each year so the materials can be studied and appreciated by students\, faculty\, and other scholars.\n\nJoin us (on the 6th floor of Hatcher) for Third Thursdays at the Library\, a themed monthly open house where we share materials from our collections.
