SUMMARY:Lecture / Discussion:QuantUM Speaker Series: Capturing the Shortest Moments with Light
DESCRIPTION:Join QuantUM for a talk from Dr. Yuki Kobayashi\, Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Fellow at the Quantum Research Institute at Michigan as part of our monthly speaker series. The talk is in West Hall 340 from 5:00-6:00 PM\, including time to ask questions.\n\nThe talk is open to students of all majors and levels of background knowledge\; it's a great way to get introduced to a new field. We'll serve free food across the hall in the Don Meyers common starting at 4:45. \n\nDescription: When do electrons change from quantum to classical? Is quantum important in chemical reactions? Has natural selection shaped the world to take advantage of quantum? Ultrafast spectroscopy can answer these questions by taking real-time movies of quantum dynamics in matters. In this talk\, I will highlight some of the recent progress in the area of attosecond spectroscopy -- the fastest spectroscopic tool that human beings have developed.
