SUMMARY:Lecture / Discussion:The Role of Arts Research / Creative Practice in the Humanities and Social Sciences: A Conversation
DESCRIPTION:While many of those trained in the humanities and social sciences see scholarly articles and books as their primary goals\, there are other paths and research methods available–many of them within or inspired by the arts. This panel and discussion brings together UM faculty working in the humanities and social sciences who have turned to the creative practices of the arts to make and disseminate knowledge–and done so in projects with high impact nationally and internationally. Panelists will discuss how their creative work–curating museum exhibits\, making films\, creating performance\, and writing fiction or poetry–have been key to their work in the humanities and social sciences. Come to learn more about their work and to re-imagine your own.\n\nSpeakers: Ruth Behar\, Jim Burnstein\, Frieda Ekotto\, Rafael Neis\, Lawrence La Fountain-Stokes\, Silke Weineck\, Jason Young\, Clare Croft\n\nSponsored by the Arts Initiative\, the Office of the Vice President of Research\, and the LSA Dean’s Office
