SUMMARY:Lecture / Discussion:Annual Borka Tomljenović Lecture. Migration and Narration
DESCRIPTION:Aleksandar Hemon will discuss issues of migration\, narration\, displacement\, multilinguality\, macaronic language\, epic form\, music\, collaborative creativity\, and the end of empires. He will also read excerpts from his critically-acclaimed novel \"The World and All That It Holds\" (2023)\, a sweeping story that spans decades — 1914-1949 (and 2001) —and continents\, from Sarajevo to Shanghai (plus Jerusalem). The reading will be followed by a Q&A led by CREES Director Elizabeth King.\n   \n   Aleksandar Hemon is the author of \"The Question of Bruno\,\" \"Nowhere Man\,\" \"The Lazarus Project\,\" \"Love and Obstacles\,\" \"The Making of Zombie Wars\,\" \"The Book of My Lives\,\" and \"My Parents: An Introduction/This Does Not Belong to You.\" His most recent novel\, \"The World and All That It Holds\" was published by Farrar\, Straus and Giroux (FSG) in 2023. He has received a Guggenheim Fellowship (2003)\, a “genius grant” from the MacArthur Foundation (2004)\, as well as the Dos Passos Prize (2020). Hemon co-wrote the script for \"The Matrix 4\,\" with David Mitchell and Lana Wachowski. He is at work on \"How Did You Get Here?: Tales of Displacement\" (oral histories) forthcoming from FSG.
