SUMMARY:Exhibition:A Gathering
DESCRIPTION:Welcome. Make Yourself At Home.\n \nA Gathering brings together the newest works of art to enter UMMA’s collection — many on display here for the first time. \n \nAs a free\, public museum\, UMMA staff takes care of art for the benefit of the community and society at large. The works on view in this exhibition\, all brought into the Museum between 2019 and the present\, shows how institutions like UMMA are becoming more permeable to societal challenges\, and more nimble in responding to them in service to all in their communities. In this exhibition you will find works that reflect on how global migrations\, race\, gender\, and ecological change shape the way we engage with the world and inform our visions for the future.\n \nThis collection of artistic engagements with issues give us tools to envision who we want to be as individuals\, as a museum\, and as a society\, connected to one another across space and experience.\n \nSo gather here to take in these latest works of art brought here for you. Gather here to be engulfed in their forms and meanings\, to discuss their takes\, to learn\, to disagree. Gather to relax\, make a friend\, drink a coffee\, finish the daily Wordle. Gather to feel full\, to be moved and inspired by all the possible imaginations of what is yet to come.\n \nCurated by Félix Zamora Gómez Irving Stenn\, Jr. Fellow in Public Humanities & Museum Pedagogy\n\nLead support for this exhibition is provided by Lizzie and Jonathan Tisch\, the Richard and Rosann Noel Endowment\, and the University of Michigan Office of the Provost.\n

SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:Create Accessible Digital Documents (LSA Disability Navigator Workshop)
DESCRIPTION:As we shift from print to digital documents in the workplace\, it's important to ensure all readers and contributors can access the content. If document users include individuals who are color blind\, use assistive technologies\, or process information differently\, will they be able to effectively engage with the content?\nThis workshop will focus on how to create digital documents in Word and Google Docs that are more user-friendly and accessible. In addition to demonstrations\, there will be opportunities to apply what you are learning in real time.\n\nParticipants will learn about:\n1. The benefit of accessible documents and how specific features support diverse users.\n2. How to build more accessible documents in Microsoft Word and Google Documents.\n3. Tools to assist with document accessibility.\n4. Resources to deepen knowledge on document accessibility.\n\nAudience:\nThis is a beginner-level workshop open to any LSA employee\, including our undergraduate and graduate student employees. LSA employees receive priority access\, so while external guests are welcome to register they will be waitlisted and moved off the waitlist as space allows.
