DESCRIPTION:Graduate students Eva Albalghiti & Mitty Ma perform on the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Carillon\, an instrument of 60 bells with the lowest bell (bourdon) weighing 6 tons.\n\nThirty-minute recitals are performed on the Lurie Carillon every weekday that classes are in session. During these recitals\, visitors may take the elevator to level 2 to view the largest bells\, or to level 3 to see the carillonist performing. (Visitors subject to acrophobia are recommended to visit level 2 only.) An optional spiral stairway between levels 2 and 3 allows for up-close views of some of the largest bells.

DESCRIPTION:A sixth and final addition to our Honors in the Arts Winter 2024 event series has been confirmed.\n\nJoin us on Wednesday\, April 17th\, from 1:50PM until 4:15PM\, for a walking tour of some of Downtown Ann Arbor's most beloved\, Indie Bookstores!We will be exploring some of Ann Arbor's most adored and longest-standing independent bookstores. At each stop\, we will have an opportunity to browse the stacks\, meet the owner\, and take a break from the rush of the end of the winter semester to appreciate Ann Arbor's downtown\, book culture. Our list of bookstores and their respective owners is provided below...          Dawn Treader Bookshop (Africa Schaumann)          Literati Bookstore (Hilary Gustafson)          Crazy Wisdom Bookstore (Chandra Mitchel)          West Side Book Shop (Jay Platt)A few questions we might consider before and during this walking tour...          Is there an art to browsing a bookstore?          Is there an art to designing a browsable bookstore?          How do I engage in local/regional book culture?\n\nParticipation in this event\, followed by a reflection—reflection details to be provided day of the event\, due no later than 4/24—counts as one HIA event. As noted previously\, you must attended at least two HIA events in Winter 2024 to obtain one Sophomore Engagement Point. (Of course\, you are encouraged\, if so inclined\, to attend as many of the HIA events in Winter 2024 as you like.)\nThis event will be capped at 15 attendees\, per our Indie Bookstore participants' tours and visitations policies.We will meet at the Perlman Honors Commons at 1:50PM sharp.
