SUMMARY:Livestream / Virtual:Community Conversation: Becoming Clarissa Love
DESCRIPTION:Community Conversations is an opportunity for faculty\, staff and student to come together weekly to engage on meaningful ways to increase belonging at Michigan Medicine. We feel that it is important to carve out space for dialogue\, provide support for one another\, promote self-care\, and share valuable resources. The sessions are designed for space to hear your voice and all are welcome!\n\nThe \"Becoming\" activity is centered on personal storytelling\, self-reflection\, & honest vulnerability in the DEI space and provides an opportunity to learn more about our colleagues and the impact that DEI has on their lives. Using a Q&A interviewing approach to begin the conversation\, facilitators will help interviewees speak to their own experiences in the DEI journey & create more meaningful connections through open conversation. This is designed as a 1-hour session\, beginning with the conversation & storytelling portion & ending with a larger group discussion.\n\nhttps://ohei.med.umich.edu/events

SUMMARY:Careers / Jobs:Yelping From Home: The Tech Talk Series
DESCRIPTION:Talk: How I became a Systems Engineer\n\nEver since I was a kid\, I was intrigued with how computers worked and I built my first one at the age of 12. In this talk\, I will explain why I chose the engineering path early in my career. I will describe my career path from my help desk days in biotech to my current position as a systems engineer at Yelp\, and give advice on how to be successful when it comes to choosing a rewarding career path.\n\n--\n\nYelp’s mission is to connect people with great local businesses\, and one of the teams working behind the scenes to make that happen is our five star engineering and product teams.\n\nPlaying an active role in our community is a value that we have strongly prioritized over the years. Typically we would invite you to come to Yelp’s HQ to network\, grab a slice of ‘za\, and learn about the technology and culture behind Yelp. With stay-at-home orders across the globe\, Yelp (like many of you) has had no choice but to adapt to these changes. We understand that this is a strange and challenging time for many\, so we’d like to invite you to join us as we navigate this new normal for the tech community together.\n\nTo stay connected\, create space for folks to collaborate and share some of the things Yelp has been working on\, we are launching our very own virtual tech talk series. This series of talks will feature Yelpers from engineering and product and will focus on themes such as career development\, technical skills\, workplace challenges and Yelp’s response to COVID-19.
