DESCRIPTION:Kevin Gilligan will join the IOE 101 class to discuss his occupation at Graham Packaging with a presentation titled \"My Career in manufacturing and what I’ve learned along the way.\"\n\nBiography: \nKevin Gilligan is a business leader with extensive executive experience running complex organizations including a $700 million paper business\, a global operations team of 1\,800 people and the Asia Pacific region for a specialty chemical company.\n\nKevin is currently President of the Food & Nutrition business for Graham Packaging\, a global manufacturer of rigid plastic containers for well-known consumer brands.  Prior to that\, he served as chief executive officer and board member of Appvion\, a specialty paper company.\n\nBefore joining Appvion\, Kevin enjoyed a 20-year career with H.B. Fuller\, a $2 billion in revenue global specialty chemical company focused on adhesives. He served as global operations vice president\; region vice president for Asia Pacific businesses\; general manager of H.B. Fuller Window\; North American operations director\; e-business director\; product line manager\; and plant manager. He began his career as a manufacturing engineer for Texas Instruments.\n\nKevin currently serves on the Common Ground Healthcare Cooperative Board of Directors where he is Finance and Audit Chair and the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center Board of Directors where he is a member of the executive and governance committees.  He also serves on the Industrial and Operations Engineering Advisory Board at the University of Michigan as Board Chair and serves on the education committee.\n\nKevin earned a master’s degree in business administration with a concentration in marketing and operations management from Indiana University and a bachelor’s degree in industrial and operations engineering from the University of Michigan. He currently resides in Appleton\, Wisconsin with his wife and their three teenage children.

SUMMARY:Performance:Jessi Grieser\, carillon
DESCRIPTION:LSA faculty member Jessi Grieser performs on the Charles Baird Carillon\, an instrument of 53 bronze bells located inside the Burton Memorial Tower. The largest bell\, which strikes the hour\, weighs 12 tons\, while the smallest bell\, 4½ octaves above\, weighs just 15 pounds.\n\nThirty-minute recitals are performed on the Charles Baird Carillon at noon every weekday that classes are in session\, followed by visitor Q&A with the carillonist. The bell chamber may be accessed via a combination of elevator and stairs. Take the elevator to the highest floor possible (floor 8)\, and then climb two flights of stairs (39 steps) to the bell chamber (floor 10). Earplugs are available from the carillonist upon request. Be prepared to walk on ice and snow in the bell chamber during winter. Built in 1936\, the Charles Baird Carillon is not ADA accessible. SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:LAGS Seminar | Careers for Physicists and Engineers at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory
DESCRIPTION:Jacqueline graduated from the University of Michigan\, Ann Arbor in 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in physics. Her undergraduate research with Professor Myron Campbell motivated her to pursue a PhD in physics at UC Berkeley\, which she completed in 2023. Soon after\, she started working at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) in Laurel\, Maryland. In today’s LAGS seminar\, Jacqueline will discuss the type of technical work available to physicists and engineers at APL\, APL’s working culture and benefits\, and how to apply for open positions.
