DESCRIPTION:Kinship: The Legacy of Gallery 7 is a group exhibition showcasing the cultural legacy of Gallery 7\, one of the first art venues in Detroit dedicated to the work of Black artists\, founded and run by Charles McGee from 1969 to 1979. This exhibition includes the work of Elizabeth Youngblood\, for whom Gallery 7 was a formative space of learning\, thinking\, and making while she was a burgeoning artist and designer \nJoin MOCAD’s Associate Curator Abel González Fernández for an interactive tour in conversation with Srimoyee Mitra\, Director of Stamps Gallery and the curator of Elizabeth Youngblood: Syntax.\nIn partnership with Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit (MOCAD).

DESCRIPTION:Experience History and Astronomy at the Judy & Stanley Frankel Detroit Observatory!\n\nJoin us for an evening of telescope observing with our 167-year-old telescope\, guided tours of the 1854 Detroit Observatory\, hands-on experiences\, one-of-a-kind exhibits\, and more!\n\nVisitors can register for:\n\nObservatory tours that begin at 8:00\, 8:30\, 9:00\, or 9:30pm. A 1 hour walk-through tour of the Detroit Observatory.\nTelescope observing that begins at 8:00pm. Includes telescope observing with the historic Fitz refractor and the patio telescopes.\nAll registrants\, including walk-ins\, are welcome to patio telescope observing and all hands-on activities at the observatory! Telescope observing is only if weather permits. DESCRIPTION:The exhibit \"Being Mixed Race in a Mono-racially Organized World: Interracial Identity in the U.S. and Around the World — What Research and Mixed Race People Tell Us\" is an exploration into the library's collections about the diversity of mixed race heritage. Through research\, narratives\, demographic data\, and a variety of visual and published materials\, explore multifaceted aspects of mixed race heritage with insights from many perspectives.\n\nThe 2020 U.S. Census illuminated a 276 percent increase in individuals who identify as \"two or more races\" since 2010. In recognition of the growing numbers of mixed race-identifying people at the University of Michigan\, throughout the country\, and across the globe\, we're excited to unveil this new exhibit — a unique exploration of changing demographics and intersectional identities.\n\n[The Hatcher Library will be closed December 21 to January 1.]
