SUMMARY:Exhibition:Fore-Site (Phase 3): The Stamps Gallery Pillar Project
DESCRIPTION:From September 2025 through August 2026\, Stamps Gallery is partnering in a curatorial collaboration with two Ypsilanti-based\, artist-run project spaces led by Stamps alumni: C.Y.N.K. Studios\, directed by Sally Clegg (Lecturer III and Student Exhibition Coordinator\, MFA ’20) and Abhishek Narula (MFA ’20)\; and Sometimes Space\, directed by Nathan Byrne (Lecturer I\, MFA ’21). Each space hosts dozens of artists annually for exhibitions\, performances\, and events\, fostering experimental work and building community. For this project\, Byrne\, Clegg\, and Narula have been commissioned to reimagine the pillars on Division Street that flank the gallery. SUMMARY:Exhibition:Up\, Up\, And Away: A History of Ballooning in America
DESCRIPTION:This exhibit examines the history of balloon flight in the United States from Blanchard’s first ascension to the early twentieth century. In the age of bird’s-eye views\, which imagined a perspective on American cities and towns from high in the air\, balloonists were the only people who actually had the opportunity to see what the growing nation looked like from above. As the nineteenth century progressed\, ballooning became a lucrative (if dangerous) business\, as crowds gathered to watch balloons launch\, and to see aeronauts risk their lives high in the air. Over time\, the image of the hot air balloon proliferated in American print culture\, being used to sell goods ranging from thread to canned beef. We hope that this exhibit conveys some of the thrill that would have come from seeing people fly for the first time.\n\nOn view May 22-August 28\, weekdays from 12-4 pm.

DESCRIPTION:We are excited to be hosting Dr. Zainab Hans during our virtual lunch and learn session on July 29th from 12:00pm-1:00pm ET! Dr. Hans is a Research Investigator at the University of Michigan Institute for Firearm Injury Prevention (IFIP). She will be discussing \"Implications of Darknet Marketplace Shutdowns for Violence and Crime.\"\n\nDr. Hans is a Research Investigator at the University of Michigan Institute for Firearm Injury Prevention (IFIP) and Project Director for the research and evaluation component of the Byrne State Crisis Intervention Program in Michigan. She received her doctoral degree in Economics from Wayne State University and completed her postdoctoral fellowship at IFIP. Her research integrates economic theory and quasi-experimental methods to examine the socioeconomic and structural determinants of interpersonal violence\, firearm injury\, and related public health outcomes. Her work spans intimate partner violence\, child abuse\, housing policy\, and firearm injury prevention\, with a particular focus on how macroeconomic factors and structural disadvantage shape vulnerability to violence across populations.
